We visited every store in town to check out mattress pads for one that was at least 2" thick, but supportive and not too hot. The first one we bought on Amazon was a 2" ventilated memory foam with blue gel speckles in it, and we returned it almost immediately because while it was cool, it was way too soft and had no support. The Contour Cloud mattress pad excels at being just the right combination for both of us and includes that support. I have osteoarthritis in my back and neck, and we ended up also having to buy a new mattress because we bought one that was too soft, so our solution (which might work for some of you) was to get a Sterns and Foster Lux firm queen mattress, which was a tad too firm in the store, and then add this topper to get it to the right softness level. Out theory being that you can always make a too firm mattress softer, but there's no fix for an expensive mattress that's too soft. So, the Contour Cloud has helped us to do just that.

By the way, the section in the middle for lumbar support really does what it says. I was skeptical at first, thinking it was just another gimmick, on par with the blue memory gel speckles, but it has helped.

Now for the cons. I dislike that the manufacturer has opted to size this pad about 1.5-2" too narrow and too short to cover the entire surface of a queen bed. It's essentially almost a FULL size, not QUEEN. In the package it tells you that they did this intentionally so your mattress cover will FIT - BALDERDASH - they did it to make 5% more profit by leaving out that much material! Mattress covers are as thick as 15" or more nowadays, so that is a line of bologna. Shame on them. If I had known this I would have bought a KING and trimmed it to fit!Read more ›

I bought this mattress pad because I have neck, back and leg pain and a full size bed. After waiting about 4 days for the pad to uncompress to its full size, I found that when I put my back in the lumbar portion, the rest of me at 5'4 was not large enoguh to fall into the correct foam areas. Also I felt I was being enveloped in foam.It was very uncomfortable. It might be a better fit for 2 taller and heavier people. I coulnd't return it since I did not have the strength to compress it to fit
back in the box.

It is exactly what they tell you it is. It had a weird smell which lasted a few days but eventually dissapeared. I am a college student and my back used to hurt a lot, it still hurts now, but way less. The investment was defenitely worth it (the price of a new mattress is way above this). Fixed the pressure point problem my bed had for sure. You might consider buying a mattress pad without the "extra back support" because it can be uncomfortable sometimes. Also, a thicker mattress pad would provide more cushioning on the shoulders, which this lacks. Overall, I'm very happy that I bought this.

I wish I could give this pad the same rave reviews that most everyone else has, but it hasn't worked out quite as well for me. Here's my story in case it helps anyone out. I weigh about 175, my spouse about 110. We'd been sleeping on a tempur-pedic style mattress that had gotten too soft, and ended up causing me considerable lower back pain due to lack of support. I went too far the other direction when swapping to a new, very firm mattress, and the extra firmness ended up causing the same back pain. Initially, we tried a 3" gel-foam pad that was too soft for me and too hot for my spouse. Next we tried this pad, which is very plush and comfy, but not enough of a buffer between us the firm new mattress. I also found the lumbar support to be uncomfortable, but we rotated the pad so that extra padding is nearer to the foot of the bed, which has worked out fine. We finally added a 1.5" feather bed topper by Laura Ashley on top of the Contour Cloud, which seems to have finally solved my issues.

So, for our use case, which is trying to find a good balance between comfort and support, the Contour Cloud, when sandwiched between a firm mattress and a featherbed topper, ended up being part of the solution, but definitely didn't solve the problem on its own.

I have lower back pain due to a degenerative disc, and require good lumbar support to minimize the pain, and I wake up every morning unable to straighten my back for a few minutes. I have tried other mattresses, but none have helped. I recently started waking up during the night tossing and turning with back pain, so in desperation, I turned to Amazon where I found great reviews for this product. I was a little put off by the price knowing that it would be difficult to return if it didn't work, but after reading the reviews, I thought it would be worth the risk. When I opened it, I was initially concerned that it was not as thick as I had imagined it would be, and wasn't at all sure it would help; but, to my surprise after lying down on it, it was so comfortable and really felt good on my back. The lumbar support doesn't look like it would be enough, but it surprised me. Last night was my 4th night sleeping on it, and this morning was the 4th morning I have gotten up and have been able to stand straight up without pain. So far, it springs right back up when I get up, and hasn't lost its shape. And, I sleep all night through without any pain at all.
I am 5'3" and 130 pounds. I sleep on my side, so the lumbar support is under my side right at the waist. It is just enough support to keep my spine from "sagging." I am sure it works well for back sleepers, too. And whatever it's made of is so comfortable on the rest of my body, too... not soft and mushy, but comfortably supportive like it cushions my body.
Other notes: I didn't notice any odor at all when I took it out of the package as some reviewers reported. Also, it is just an inch or so narrower on each side than my king sized bed, but that's certainly not a problem for me. I'd rather it be that way than hanging over the edge. I didn't have any problem with the sheets I use fitting over it, either. Oh, and my dogs love it, too! I think they can tell the difference in the comfort of it, too! ;-)
