In spite of the fact the horridness of Gothic City was probably inspired on Blade Runner -Los Angeles, 2019- (Who cares if you live?), there are many interesting details worthy to remark around this peculiar second entry by Tim Burton.

First at all, its undeniable admiration for the outlaws. The Penguin is by far his main winner card. His mysterious origin, his disparity as human being, his hands (Tim Burton cites himself in Edward scissor hands), the way he makes his own codes of violence and above all his peculiar residence the sewers of Gothic City. Then, the presence of the Cat woman, magnificently performed by Michelle Pfeiffer (whose bullet proof sensuality doesn't admit any doubt), and how he describes her origin (Watch her for instance at the moment when Bruce Wayne meets her in the party and her look is a close resemblance of Burton' s real wife Helen Bonham Carter. On the other hand, the use of the stage to present the essential drama. The major, the opportunism of Chris Walken who sees in The Penguin, a crucial device to put on march his dark ambitions, as well as the weird behavior of Bruce Wayne, the misogynic millionaire who simply refuses to be trapped by this alluring secretary.

If it's true the script is not solid at all, the fusion of these disperse details, hovered by the eternal night of this City makes it interesting to appreciate and delight it.
