Not everyone has the same expectations for smoked fish. Some people prefer it smoked to a crisp; other people prefer smoked fish that is nearly raw. The folks at Seabear seem to have found a good, in between, place.

I've used this product several times and have always enjoyed it. The salmon is smokey and flavorful, flakey, firm, and tasty. The salmon ships in foils pouches, each containing a couple of ounces of salmon oil. You can pour it down the drain if you prefer a drier fish (but that's a lot of good omega-3 fatty acids to waste). Used in salmon pasta with a little olive oil, sundried tomatoes, and a little black pepper (let it sit over night in the fridge for the flavors to mix) it is a summer favorite. If you like your smoked salmon moderately moist, yet firm, Seabear is a good choice.

I've ordered this a few times for myself and as gifts, and it's always appreciated. Having lived in the Pacific Northwest for a few years, I get that "deja vu" feeling whenever I eat salmon smoked the way SeaBear does theirs. Very flavorful and a heavenly snack to accompany your favorite whiskey.

I have this product delivered to my Dad every two months. He loves it! He has tried to find it or something similar on the open market in Los Angeles, and just unable to find the same prime quality. Once he mailed me the packaging. I thought he was sharing. NOT! He wanted me to see how nicely the product was packaged! I'm glad I finally found something that he really looks forward to receiving.

All I can say is that this completely met my expectations of a good smoked salmon filet!

A few words to describe what you are buying:

1. Three filets of different types of salmon
2. Fully cooked fish, clearly smoked (to me a medium level)
3. Firm and flakey. I didn't notice an overwhelming amount of oil/fat.
4. Skin on the filet. To me this is not a problem.
5. Each filet comes in a sealed foil pouch.

All three salmon steaks were good. They were small but more than enough for one person a steak. And I really mean that. The picture, to me, looks like there is enough for at least 2 people per steak choice, which is why I say that they are "small". I heated mine in the oven as it says it is pre-cooked and ready to eat but microwave is not suggested. They had a great aroma as they were being heated. The only issue, if it is an issue, is that at least one was a little too spicy (not spicy hot but seasoning) for me. I can't eat food with a lot of seasoning or any spicy hot sauces. It was delicious. But I paid a huge price for eating it.
