During a two-month period, I experimented, in succession, with four different types of spincast rod and reel combos, but could not achieve a satisfactory result. However, after perusing several reviews on various spincast rod and reel combos, I made a definitive selection: the ZEBCO 808 MEDIUM HEAVY SPINCAST ROD & REEL COMBO. It is absolutely fantastic. Even as a novice at fishing (two months of experience), I used my ZEBCO 808 Combo at my first attempt, and caught 15 channel catfishes, my largest catch ever, at the local lake. My subsequent fishing trips with my ZEBCO 808 Spincast Combo have been equally successful. In fact, I am so pleased with this equipment, that I intend to purchase one or two more as spares.

I hate to admit it but I basically quit fishing when I entered Military Service back in '86. Now after 20 years there and three more years back out working as a civilian again, I decided that I needed to get back to fishing. It's been a long time but I knew I could not go wrong with Zebco as a starting point with no current knowledge of the market so I got a light Zebco rod and this medium-heavy one and neither disappointed me.

This rod has great feel and depending on what you're casting, outstanding distance. It cranks smoothly and quietly. If you're using a float you can just make your cast and flip a switch and if anything hits it you get a very audible "drag" sounding alarm from the internal mechanism so even if you dose off, you still have a good chance of bringing that fish in. It comes pre-spooled so you just need to affix the reel release line and add bait and you're ready to go. A great rod for any collection.

Being a long time Zebco user and fan ,I bought this item a little leary about the rod. But was greatly please when I hit the river with them. Not only did it handle the strong current, it handled this different sized fish with ease . I would recommend this combo for any lake or river fisherman.

Hurricane Ike with it's 8' tidal surge wiped out our fishing gear...this is my second purchase on this product to start re-stocking! I know it's not the best on the market, but it catches those remaining trout and croakers just like the more expensive ones. And just in time for flounder fishing! All I need now is a cast net since most of the bait houses are destroyed! Please keep Galveston County in your prayers as Hurricane Ike truly devastated most of it.

works excellent, highly recommend. i've been catching 4-5lb. fish(carp and largemouth bass) like i'm reeling in a bluegill. it casts excellent and works great along the shore. i'm able to get my bait casted out where the fish are. i didn't use the bait alert, because i don't need it.

caught a snapping turtle with it last night. the turtle proved to be a little too much for the pole as it snapped under the weight of the turtle with the line snapping shortly after. i managed to catch the turtle in my net which he proceeded to destroy as well, but i got him in the back of my pickup and now i need to buy a new pole and net. i estimate the turtle weighed around 40lbs.

i just ordered another one of these rod/reel combo's. it is one of the best poles out there for the low price. i'll keep my old 808 reel as a back up. this is a great product and i highly recommend it.

I found these products to work fine. The only complaint I had was that they did not come with instructions on the reel or rod. Having not ued a rod or reel for some time, I could have used a few tips on "useage". I could not find the Zebco instruction book on the Zebco 808 on the internet.
