I love the pressure cooker, but this rubber piece gets hard and shrinks. Mine started to leak after 5 years.
However, the valve works great (it's a safety feature). It just doesn't seal properly. I fixed the seal by adding a piece of wire under the rim of the top side. See my picture of the repair.

My Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker was in desperate need of a new UL valve. After ten years of use the old one had gotten very stiff and I had to use a butter knife to lift it so that the pressure cooker would build its pressure.

Installation of the new valve was a little bit of trial and error. I had read that you could press the old one out from the top but since mine had hardened so much that was not possible for me. I got out the pliers and an old rag to protect my cooker and pulled on the valve from underneath. After bending it back and forth with the pliers several times it finally came out. Then I pressed the new valve in from the bottom. It took a bit of pressing until it was fully in the correct position but I could do it fine with my average female hand strength.

Now the pressure cooker is as good as new. When I tested it out it built up pressure just fine with no extra adjustments. Looking forward to another ten years of use!! Thank you Kuhn Rikon for making these replacement parts available through Culinary Parts/The Gourmet Depot and other suppliers.

The valve on my Kuhn-Rikon was getting more and more loose and hissy, and finally the cooker wouldn't build up pressure without extra valve persuasion, wiggling it until it feels happy enough to seal and stop venting steam. So, after 8 years of regular use (2 or more times/week) it was finally time for a replacement. This valve is a bit pricey, but works like a charm! Push down from the top to get the old one out and the new one is pushed up from the bottom. I was worried about how it would go, but the old valve was loose and popped right out. No extra strength required to push the new one in, the whole ordeal probably took 15 sec or less. Works great! No more hissing and wiggling.

The part came in original Kuhn-Rikon packaging. The top part/button differs slightly from the original valve it replaced. Otherwise, the gasket and the bottom look the same.

The valve works fine, BUT, I don't think the installation instructions are correct. The valve comes with a small piece of thick paper with a hole in it, and the instructions show using this paper for installing the valve. As I viewed the very minimal instructions, it looks like this paper is used to control how far the valve is inserted into the lid (to keep it from being pushed in too far). With my particular Kuhn pressure cooker, if I installed it per their instructions, the valve would not stay inserted, and when I tried using the cooker, with the valve inserted per their instructions, steam was shooting out the valve. So I pushed the valve all the way in (past where the paper ring would let it go) and where the valve now appears to seat properly in the lid of the steamer. The steamer now works well, and the valve is functioning properly. NOTE: this is the correct valve for my steamer as it matches the old valve I'm replacing.
