We recently bought a new pontoon boat and were anxious to take our little 10 lb dog out. The first time, she nearly jumped overboard. We decided we should get her a flotation device in case she actually did it the next time. In searching Amazon, I found this great little life vest. Cute design and we liked the idea of having a handle to grab Memie in case of an emergency! The first one arrived in two days (love that Amazon Prime!) and it seemed a little small when we tried it on her but she didn't seem to mind it at all.

In looking at the label on the vest, it turns out that the XX Small we got is for 0-6 lbs. XSmall is for 6-15 lbs. The Amazon item information for the XXS vest didn't have any sort of a weight chart so I guessed - wrong. I notice now that the XS size does have a weight chart. So we had to get the return authorization from Amazon and ship it back for a refund. I re-ordered a larger size and now we ALL are good to go boating!

This life jacket is absolutely adorable. It is sturdy, so that you can actually use the handle to pull your dog out of the water if necessary (mind you...my dog is only 12 pounds). If your dog is in between measurments, I recommend the smaller of the sizes. I measured my dog and he fit 2 of the "XS" sizing chart requirements and 2 of the "S" sizing requirements. I ordered the Small and had to return it for the XS, but easily did so and enjoyed using it at the lake. I would definitely recommend this reasonably priced, nicely built life vest! :)

I have a 45lb Pit Bull. I'm pretty sure pit bulls aren't known for swimming. Well, my pit (Karma) amazed everyone when we took her to the lake. The jacket was a great fit (medium) and didn't seem to bother her one bit! Day 3 of going out to the lake she was jumping off the boat into the water. She loved every minute of it and I have to assume it was partly due to the jacket giving her some confidence. My pit bull is now a water dog :) The handle on the top was a great addition...we could help pull her out of the water by the handle making it easier for her to get back in the boat. GREAT PRODUCT!

I have a German Shepherd. She is over 50 lbs. and long. The jacket seems to float her back end very high, forcing her head to be low in the water. The jacket needs some additional support under the chin area for a dog that is larger. She has a hard time keeping her head above the water since her tummy and rear are so high. We have tightened the front (neck area) as much as possible to bring the jacket forward on her body, but it has not helped.

I also have a Yorkie and her small jacket on her small body works great.

So, if you have a small dog, I recommend this jacket. If you have a large dog, you might consider getting the less attractive jacket, which I have found to work much better with this size dog.

I ordered this for my four pound Morkie. It fit acceptably and she seemed comfortable in it. When she inevitably fell off the kayak the handle on the back made it easy to scoop her back up. The white color and reflective strips also made her much more visible in the water, which was my primary concern since she's black. My only complaint is that the neck straps are very thick and bulky. I think the foam should have been left out of one of the sides to make it more suitable for tiny dogs. You can see in the photo I uploaded how far they stick out in front.

I got this for my pet rabbit (he weighed about 4lbs) when he injured his spine and the vet recommended water therapy. This kept him floating comfortably in the bathtub while he "swam." So, if you're considering this vest for a rabbit, it works!

I have a chihuahua with a very small build. She weighs almost 4 pounds and doesn't have the barrel chest that many chihuahuas have. We ordered her an XXS jacket, and it fits well enough to keep her afloat but not really well. It fits great through the chest area, but because of how stiff the jacket is the tail end of the jacket sticks up over her bum and makes it hard for her to float by tipping her body forward in the water! Although I know that it would be great in an emergency, she can't really wear it just to swim around because it dunks her face into the lake. BUT I think this is an issue specific to her tiny little body and on most dogs it would fit just fine. It definitely floats, and I love the mesh underside- it's very comfortable for her to wear and drains and dries quickly.

I purchased this for my 6lb dachshund...it's too small for him. I would recommend this life jacket for a tea cup size dog. Also be warned that the seller will constantly call your phone from a blocked number and not leave a message. If you answer they will hound you to leave feedback for them so that, and I quote, "others will want to purchase from us".
