This a great product. I've been using Mainstay food rations for about 20 years now. They are official US Coast Guard lifeboat rations that actually taste pretty darn good to me. I like lemon-vanilla cookies and that is what they taste like. They store for a minimum of 5 years in any condition and come stamped with an expiration and/or manufactured date. They're also loaded with essential vitamins and minerals. I'm eating some now from a purchase 5 years ago and they still taste fresh. I keep 2-3 cases of the 2400 calorie bars on hand at all times. I store them in my garage which gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. When a case gets close to the expiration date, I start eating them as snacks/lunches and order another case of 2400 calorie bars.

I prefer the 2400 calorie bars as the best compromise between size and cost per ounce of food. It's a little cheaper to buy the 3600 calorie bars, but they don't fit as easily in a BOB backpack. No matter what the size, each "bar" is 3, 6, or 9 individual 400-calorie blocks inside of heavy-duty foil packaging.
