This is a very well-made product. I did find the Amazon description to be misleading. It says there is an o-ring where it attaches to the engine. This is not true. You have a simple pipe thread where you attach to the engine. The o-ring is (happily) on the other end where the cap is that you remove to drain the oil. It's a good system with only one compromise: the hose stays full of oil that is not used by the engine and is lost every time you drain the engine. This, I believe, is why manufacturers don't use this approach. The amount of oil lost is probably under an ounce, so it's no big deal.

As you can see from reading other reviews, the real question is whether it is workable in your engine's geometry. Can you attach it? If you can, will the hose be long enough? Will you be able to tuck it out of the way? I have to wonder about people who blame these problems on the product. Try to figure this all out BEFORE you buy.

I used my Drainzit hose to replace one of the little Briggs and Stratton twist-to-seal kits that came on a 15-year-old riding mower. The old kit was leaky after 15 years, and it was always a hassle to deal with, partly because of its poor accessibility. I made up my mind that I was going to replace it if it meant cutting sheet metal to get access. I expected trouble removing the old B&S one and installing this one. I avoided cutting metal by using a stubby wrench (from one of those cheap Harbor Freight sets). I ground down the shoulders on the open end side to allow it to maneuver. (Not sure why a low-leverage wrench designed to get into tight spaces would need wide shoulders anyway.) I wrapped the Drainzit's pipe thread in teflon tape so that I wouldn't need to get it super tight and could ensure a leak-free connection. It worked.

This product is excellent. Makes changing oil a breeze. No more spills or getting burned with hot oil. The rubber collar keeps the valve out of the way until time to change oil. Highly recommended.

My mowers oil drain was just a 1/2" above the motor deck and 4 inches away from the nearest edge.(See Pictures) The manufacturer included a drip pan to divert the draining oil into a receptacle of your choosing. Doing it that way spilled oil all over the mower and ground. With the DRAINZIT installed; I can accomplish seasonal oil changes cleanly and easily. Hope that Helps.

I'm using this on a 20HP Kohler 7000 series engine (on my Ariens Zoom 42 zero turn mower). While the Kohler 7000 series isn't specifically listed as compatible on Drainzit's site the engine diagram indicated the existing oil plug was 3/8" NPT and so is this product. The OEM drain plug was terrible...some yellow plastic thing you're supposed to put a clear plastic tube on, then turn it 10-15 times to open the valve and get the oil to flow. It was impossible to get a grip on it and was located in the most difficult place imaginable.

The drain plug threads in the Kohler 7000 are set in, so even with the oil filter off, it's not possible to get a wrench on the Drainzit's fitting to tighten it. I did it with needle nose pliers, but I wasn't happy about not knowing how tight it was.

I removed the Drainzit and got a 1" 3/8 NPT brass pipe nipple and a 3/8" NPT hex-shaped brass coupling from Lowes. I assembled the coupling to the pipe nipple with Permatex thread sealer. The hex-shape of the couple is the key here...you can now get a wrench on that and use it to thread in and tighten the pipe nipple. Then I connected the Drainzit to that and tightened it up. Worked great and is definitely what I should have done in the first place. So don't be afraid of installing a Drainzit if you're drain plug is hard to get a wrench on...just pick up a few brass fittings. Make sure to get a short enough pipe nipple that the Drainzit doesn't end up rubbing on a tire, etc.

With the ease of access to the Drainzit, I was also able to move to a higher capacity Kohler oil filter (since I no longer have to try to get my hand in there to loosen the stock drain plug).

If you do your own mower/engine service, BUY THIS NOW.... this is such a great idea and excellent execution.
Makes changing the oil a breeze, no need to jack up the mower and risk spilling oil on the shop floor. Amazing!

Installed this in under 5 minutes on my Briggs & Stratton 13.5 HP INTEK

I recently ordered this to replace the crappy plastic "auto drain plug" that came on the Briggs and Stratton motor on my JD Z225 mower. This hose looks to be very nice quality on both the fittings, o-ring seal on the cap, and the rubber used for the hose. I had it installed on my motor in no time at all and it seems to seal up well.

Its making draining my oil much easier and it doesn't leak all over the place like the stock drain solution.

I have one on my Husqvarna articulated mower and I just put one on my 1990 Deutz Alis garden tractor. If they were $100 each, they would still be worth it. It makes life sooooo much easier when changing the oil.

Got what I wanted. Well packaged and delivered on time. Haven't installed this one yet but have installed 2 others that are different sizes and they worked well. They other sizes where a 12mm and a 10mm for Honda engines.
