I received a swivel top salt box as a birthday gift. Right away, you know this is going to be something special. The weight of the marble is very nice, and makes it have a very "rich" feel to it. This is LARGE too, larger than you might guess from the photo. At 5" diameter and a bit over 2" tall this thing is more than a handful. This won't work very well if you plan on placing it on the back of your stove, where the edge isn't very wide, but I don't think your supposed to use it there anyway. Mine sits on my dining room table and we use it as we would a salt mill or shaker.

The swivel on the top is very sturdy and I am sure will last for years. The lid slides cleanly with no problems. On the bottom are four felt pads so your furniture does not get scratched.

The two compartments are LARGE and I won't have to refill this thing very often. For mine I have coarse kosher in one side and fine sea salt in the other. Who could ask for more? This is heaven for me.

There isn't a tiny little spoon to come with it, if you want one you will need to supply your own. But if you had one just keep in mind you would have to store the spoon elsewhere because it won't probably fit inside with the lid closed.

This salt AND pepper box is perfect to keep next to your cook top. The swivel works perfectly. It is large enough to hold a good amount of salt and pepper. The black marble is grained and perfect on my white counter.

I ordered this with a pound of pink Himalayan salt for my bf who is a chef. He cooks everyday. I almost got the bamboo one but this one looks so much nicer for sitting on the counter plus it will last forever, literally. I'd recommend this salt box because it's big enough for someone who cooks everyday, so they don't have to constantly refill it. Plus it can hold 2 different kinds, for one regular sea salt and one for the pink salt. The swivel top is kind of fun too, you don't have to take the lid off or pick it up to slide the lid to either side, which is extra convenient for a chef who always has his hands busy. This is only $5 more than the bamboo one but looks way nicer, plus the bamboo one has a lot of complaints about a huge sticker on top thats impossible to remove. This one is pretty much perfect.

I've had my Black Marble Salt Box for almost a year now and I enjoy it as much now as the day I received it from Amazon. Having two compartments makes it easy to keep my two favorite salts (Himalayan Pink and Hawaiian Black) near the stove when I'm cooking. When entertaining guests it's a very attractive addition to the table setting and allows them to choose which salt to add to their food, if desired.

For those who like to use one compartment for a flavored salt, the marble will not retain odors or flavors if you should decide to make a change. A gentle hand wash cleans it out easily and it's ready to be refilled as soon as it is thoroughly dry.

The finish is very classy and looks great on my marble counters and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. With the felt bottom there is no need to worry about scratching.

Highly recommended!

I got this as a gift around a year ago and waited until now to review it. Why? I don't know. It's really a great item. It's not only wonderful by the stove, but it also looks nice on the table with a salt spoon during dinner, and makes a nice conversation piece.

The black marble is beautifully finished, and has a good weight to it. It was certainly a lot larger and heavier than I expected from the pictures, and that is a good thing. It stays put where you have it, and you don't have to worry about accidentally knocking it over or it shifting when you reach for salt. The compartments hold a fair amount of salt, and don't have to be refilled very often, but if you have large fingers you may find that they are a tad narrow for anything more than a small pinch of salt (e.g. seasoning pasta water).

The lid seems very sturdy, and well attached. I've heard some complaints that it feels to loose, but it has to be a little loose to make it easy to open and close. It's not overly loose though; just enough so that it easily swivels.

Like I said, I have had this for around a year, and have no complaints. I would certainly purchase this again.
