We've had our kapoosh for over a year now, and while it was down right awesome at first (we have a Frankenstein knife collection - all from different sets), the knife holder is now too dangerous to be used. Each section (there are two on this model) is made of individual plastic "hairs" that are bound together at the bottom. After fairly regular use, these hairs bend and fold until one can no longer insert a knife fully into the block. We now have our knives only half way in (as they will not go down any further), and have had them FALL OUT onto the floor on multiple occasions. With a toddler in the house, it just doesn't really make sense to keep this thing around any longer. Too bad.

As others have mentioned the plastic sticks will be bent all to hell after normal usage, and even if you try to carefully insert the knives (steak knives stored upside down seem to work better) it still happens. I've resorted to plucking and snipping large pockets of the bent needles to that larger knives can fit in.

They really should have rounded the tips of all the plastic needles as the flat ends cause sharp knives to catch them on the way down and cause the bending.

I do like the design and look, but in terms of functionality I should have just bought a normal wood block.

We own a Kapoosh Stainless Steel Knife Holder and have used it for the last few months. We washed the removable rods once (in the dishwasher) according to the directions. We store five ot six knives in the main holder, and found that after a few months use, the removable rods don't accept knives completely into the holder any more.

We contacted the manufacturer's customer service dept [...] and found that returning it to the retailer was the only recourse: "you can try returning it to the store you purchased it from and see if they will do an exchange for you. I really don't know what the problem would be especially after washing the insert. The rod can become twisted and bent inside the unit if you store too many and too large of knives in it."

We're going back to a wood knife block.

When we moved into our new apartment, we went to IKEA and bought all sorts of furniture and household goods. This included an assortment of their knives. The only problem -- the standard knife block that they sell would have had too many unoccupied slots; and the knife sharpener would not have fit into the block.

I read the reviews of other models of the Kapoosh knife block, and decided that it was worth a try. I am glad -- it works very well. My overall experience is positive, but I have the same gripe that a few other reviewers have had: the knife block is only tilted by about 25 degrees, so that when you want to pull out a longer item (the aforementioned knife sharpener, or the 8" chef's knife), you need to move the block out from under the cabinets. I never had such problems with conventional knife blocks (or with the "Ex" knife block that I bought for my mother-in-law).

The knife block feels a little weird the first couple times that I used it. The gripping action of the plastic rods (bristles) is strange. I found that the best way to put the knives in is to turn the knives sideways, and then let the knife settle into its final resting place as you push it down (instead of trying to push/guide the knife to go down straight).

I reconfigured my items many times before I finally had them ordered the way I wanted. As it stands now, the upper area holds 5 knives, a pair of scissors, a knife sharpener, and a pair of chopsticks. The lower area is still empty right now -- the steak knives will go there when I get around to buying them.

Been using this for a little over 1 year and the plastic inserts eventually bend and prevent the larger knives from going all the way in. Loved it in the beginning and now hate it.

Having a number of santoku knives, large chef's knives, bread knives, etc. meant we needed several wooden knife blocks on the counter since none had more than 3 of the large slots. The Kapoosh holds everything we had in 2 large blocks -- even my husband loves it. This purchase was a winner!

I was cautious because of previous reviews. They were critical, saying that the holder was a problem because of having to clean the rods that the knives go into. Well, if you use a dishwasher or if you hand wash your utensils you don't have to worry about cleaning. Clean your knives before storing them! People with wooden knife holders go forever without cleaning the slots. So why is cleaning this one a problem? We have 3 sets of knives stored in it, and have absolutely no problems. A great buy!

This is the third Kapoosh knife block I own. The only difference between this one and the two previous ones is the color. And the quality, that is MUCH, MUCH worse!

The first one lasted about 1.5 years. The black barbs bent inside and it was more and more difficult to place the knives in the receptacle.
The second one lasted two years, because: 1) I did not place my sharpening iron in it (it seemed to bend the barbs worse); 2) I cut off some of the bent barbs to make space; and 3) I did not overfilled with knives.

This last one has been in my kitchen fort less than two months, and it had no sharpening iron, nor my 7 inch santoku, that seemed to be having some trouble getting in. Just Four medium size knives on top, and three small one in the bottom. When I checked the barbs THEY WERE ALREDY BENT. And as other reviewers said, this time the barbs were being easily cut and falling off as well!!!

I do understand that things have an useful life cycle, but this is way too short. And on top of that, the problem for this products has always been the same: the inner plastic barbs. Then why do I have to pay for the WHOLE product OVER and OVER, if you could just buy the barb replacement?!?

I am not buying one of these ever again. If they come up with the inside replacement, I'll think about it.
