Product Description

Amazon.com Review

New Yorkers have been dropping the ball in Times Square for 100 years as of New Year's Eve 2007. Since 1999, the featured ball has been a fabulous creation of Waterford Crystal. To celebrate the 100th anniversary and ring in 2008, Waterford designed a completely new ball, spectacularly lit with energy-efficient LED lights in the inaugural theme, Let There Be Light. Carrying this theme into commemorative giftware, Waterford unveiled its 2008 Times Square collection of crystal Champagne flutes, martini glasses, ornaments, and other unique items for the home. Subsequent years of the Let There Be series will feature joy, courage, love, friendship, and peace.

Crafted in Ireland of Waterford's full-lead crystal, this 3-1/2-inch disk ornament sparkles brilliantly as it catches the twinkling lights on a holiday tree. The crystal disk is cut with a stylized sunburst design in keeping with the Let There Be Light theme, and hangs from a silver ribbon embossed with the words, "Waterford Times Square 100th Anniversary 2008." A distinctive gift, especially for someone who marries or has an anniversary in 2008, the Times Square disk ornament arrives in an elegant gray-and-silver Waterford box. --Ann Bieri

From the Manufacturer

Since 1904, New York City's Times Square has captured the world's attention each New Year's Eve as millions unite to count down the final seconds of the year. New Year's Eve 2007 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball drop.

Waterford Crystal, creators of the spectacular crystal ball that has descended on the "crossroads of the world" since the millennium celebration on New Year's Eve 1999, celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the ball drop with a magnificent new ball design for 2008 and the equally dazzling Waterford Crystal Times Square Ball 100th Anniversary Collection.

The World of Celebrations Series

Beginning with Let There Be Light, Waterford designers have created a signature cut crystal design for each edition that will be incorporated into the new Waterford Crystal Times Square Ball. The inaugural image, Let There Be Light, is a dramatically stylized radiating sunburst reminiscent of fireworks. This distinctive pattern is replicated in fine commemorative holiday ornaments and crystal giftware.

The World of Celebrations, the new Waterford Crystal Times Square commemorative series, honors the many ways the world rejoices, with iconic symbols showcasing universal meaning. Subsequent annual releases in the Times Square series, as well as their respective symbols, will include:

  • 2008: Let There Be Light, Fireworks
  • 2009: Let There Be Joy, Bells Ringing
  • 2010: Let There Be Courage, Ribbon
  • 2011: Let There Be Love, Hearts
  • 2012: Let There Be Friendship, Pineapple Cuts
  • 2013: Let There Be Peace, Burst of Doves

Celebrate the time-honored tradition of the New York City Times Square New Year's Eve ball drop and cherish memories with a commemorative Waterford Crystal piece. Whether you experience the event first hand or watch from afar, the world celebrates New Year's Eve with Waterford Crystal and Times Square.

Product Description

Waterford crystal, creators of the spectacular crystal ball that has descended at the "crossroads of the world" since the milennium celebration on New Year's Eve 1999, will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the ball drop with a magnificent new ball design for 2008: the Times Square Ball 100th Anniversary Collection of Waterford Crystal. Beginning with "Let There Be Light," Waterford designers will create a signature cut-crystal design for each edition that will be incorporated into the new Waterford Crystal Times Square Ball. The inaugural image, "Let There Be Light," is a dramatically styalized, radiating sunburst. This distinctive pattern will be replicated in fine commemorative holiday ornaments and crystal giftware. The focal point of the collection will be the Times Square Ball Ornament. Philips Lighting, creators of the LED lighting that illumination the Times Square Ball itself, has developed the technology that adds a battery powered LED light source to illuminate and enhance the ornament's crystal craftsmanship. Subsequent annual releases in the Times Square series will include "Let There Be Joy," "Let There Be Courage," "Let There Be Love," "Let There Be Friendship," and "Let There Be Peace."
