DeoxIT is manfuctured by "Caig" but is often sold under the name of one their distrubutors "Hosa". Whether the product you buy says "Caig DeoxIT" or "Hosa DeoxIT" - it is the same product. "DeoxIT" is a registered tradename and that is what you are looking for. Hopefully that information eliminates some initial confusion.

As an electrical engineer I've used DeoxIT for over 30 years. In fact - it is the only contact cleaner, lubricant, and contact enhancer I trust. From Boeing, Bose, General Electric, Hewlett Pack, etc, etc this product is the gold standard and widely used in manufacturing and within professional circles.

Prior to the internet and companies like Amazon this product was unknown and unavailable outside a few professional circles.

Having said that any consumer should be aware that every DeoxIT product is superior, virtually guaranteed to do NO harm and even if you don't use the optimum formulation of DeoxIT it will still improve a poor connection and protect a new one.

DeoxIT is sold in 4 broad categories.

D series - first and foremost a heavy duty contact cleaner combined with contact enhancer/protection - this is Caig/Hosa's most universal product

S series (aka Shield S series) - for outdoor envirnments particularily benefical in salt or other harsh environments. If the connections are not new - cleaning with a D series is required (per the Caig website)

G Series (aka Gold series) - designed for gold and base metals. It offers minor cleaning properties. For gold contacts it offers near perfect protection and will slightly enhance electrical connections for gold, etc.Read more ›

I saw somewhere that this product can fix my DSLR lens auto-focusing issue. Apparently the contacts between the lens and the camera could be dirty and that can lead to intermittent disconnections that make auto-focusing screwy. I didn't think that this would be the answer to my problem, but for under $20 why not give it a try. I was astounded when the lens works really well after I applied DeoxIT GOLD to the contacts on the lens and then the camera. In fact, I think the lens works even better than before!!! In the past when I apply a small twisting pressure to the lens the auto focus would go crazy, but now the connection is rock-solid regardless of how I touch the lens. I don't know what's in this golden liquid but I'm so thankful that it works. I highly recommend this product. You don't need a lot of it either. I just dabbed each of the contact balls and pins with this solution and everything works great. At first I wasn't sure whether DeoxIT GOLD was the right product since it's for gold contacts. It works for the silver plated contacts as well. I now carry a tube of DeoxIT GOLD in my camera bag just in case I need it again.

This product and Deoxit D5 fixed approx $150 worth of gear. My Fenix flashlight wouldn't stay lit for more than 5 seconds no matter what angle I held it at or battery I tried, I sprayed it w/ Deoxit D5 and applied 1 drop of the Gold on the contact and now it works perfectly again. I ran it through 4 full battery cycles in all angles and it works 100% now. I did the same w/ my Promedia 2.0 speakers that would cut in and out of the left channel when adjusting the volume. The volume knob also had tons of static when adjusting. Both are rather common problems with these great sounding speakers. I opened it up, sprayed the knob w/ D5 and added 2 drops of gold. Crystal clear stereo audio.

I tried denatured alcohol on the flashlight and knob before using Deoxit and I didn't see any results. Awesome product, a little pricey but you get what you pay for

This stuff is an absolute must have. I've used Caig products for years. I have the "gold" and "red" DeOxit prouducts and use them all the time. I use the gold product on gold edge contacts of PC memory and add in cards when I install them. Never had to re-seat memory with DeOxit; even adds a tiny bit of lubrication to the socket for easy insertion of new memory.

For flashlights, this stuff is magic (ok, it's solid science, but it acts like magic...;-). Easy to prove to yourself; take a flashlight that's been in the drawer or toolbox for a while, shine it on the wall, note the brightness. Take it apart, put a drop of this on each end of the battery, and on the bulb. Put it back together and try again. Be amazed. And, the best part is that this is a contract preservative....it'll maintain that performance for many months. I use it every battery replacement.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 cellphone is infamous for having bad contacts between the motherboard and the GPS antenna, which causes the GPS to fail. Fixing it yourself involves tightening the screws between the motherboard and antenna every few weeks to regain contact, which I've done frequently - but this seems to loose effectiveness after 6 months, and tightening the screws has no further benefit. My phone had reached the point where, in order to get GPS location, I would have to rap the back of the phone repeatedly with my knuckles while watching a GPS status app until finally the satellites would be recognized. Over the past two years I've exchanged my S3 three times when the GPS finally stopped working permanently, and I was on the verge of exchanging again (under insurance). However, this time, I decided to try DeoxITGold on the connectors first.

After I received the bottle and read the directions, I realized this "Gold" product is to be used on connectors that are already clean and free of oxidation. The instructions on the "Gold" package recommend pre-cleaning with DeoxIT "D" first, which would make the total cost pretty substantial. However, I went ahead and used the DeoxIT Gold on my cell phone antenna contacts without pre-cleaning the contacts.

Before application of DeoxIT G, I tested the acquisition time for GPS lock to be about 5 minutes. That has been fairly common for the last month, except for the many times it completely failed to acquire a GPS lock (without physical abuse).

After treatment of the GPS antenna contacts with DeoxIT Gold, I was able to acquire a lock in 4 seconds - which I've never seen before.Read more ›
