According to the liner notes, Guitar Slim, Jr. is the son of Eddie "Guitar Slim" Jones. His daddy is famous, but I prefer Junior. I keep listening to this CD, year after year. Why? Good singing. Good songs. Restrained, tasteful, soulful, empathic blues guitar. Amazon.com has samples of the 1st four songs. They are a good representation of the whole album. This is not a "showing-off-on-the-guitar" album. It's an album of good music. I really like this album. I hope you do too. I wish he had more recordings.

How does Eddy "Guitar Slim" Jones rate any less than 5 stars?
I was lucky enough to scrape this up $6 sealed & should have just cleaned the store of all artists in this series but will need to go back to Montreal in order to do that. (next yr, just like the redsox). This cd collects Slim's Specialty sides & contains the classic "Things I Used to Do" backed by the Ray Charles band. It sounds like Ray backed him on several tunes.
But, the clear star here is Jones passionate singing style & scortching guitar tone & style. The tunes range from nice big easy ballads like "Things" to uptempo house rockin blues. This is his best stuff & the Atlantic stuff is also very good too.

I too have been listening to this album for years. It is a gem. The title song, "Story of My Life" and the lead song "Trouble Don't Last" show a good singing style, highly skilled yet restrained guitar work, and tasteful use of horns, which you don't hear on every blues guitar album. I love this album. It is one of my absolute favorite blues albums.
