Rust-Oleum had historically been my go-to product for detailing home and vehicle parts prone to corrosion. That has now changed. Recently, I media blasted some suspension parts to a bare, clean metal surface, lacquer rinsed, primed with Rust-Oleum rusty metal primer, and finally top coated with P/N 7779830 aerosol. Item received 3 coats per directions and was dried indoors for 2 days before being moved into a very humid garage for 2 more days. Upon retrieving item to be installed, was shocked to see a majority of the surface having fresh rust. Even more disappointing is after four days I can easily dig thru the paint by finger nail.

I bought the Rust-Oleum 7786830 Stops Rust Spray Paint, 12-Ounce, Gloss Smoke Gray.

First off, when you receive it, it will NOT say Smoke Gray anywhere. It will only say Gloss Protective enamel.

Second, the color is a medium to light gray and NOT a dark gray like the photo or cap.

Third there is a spray dot of dark gray near the nozzle, the same dark color as the cap. So one would think the paint would be the SAME COLOR.

BUT..... it is NOT.

It is a light to medium gray at best.

Here is a photo taken in the shade in the garage and this is as dark as it gets folks. So unless you want a light to medium gray, do NOT get it.

Not the color advertised.

I used this to paint some outdoor furniture. It covers really nice and looks great on some rod iron furniture that is 50 years old. I used several cans to complete the job. I did have a problem with one spray tip clogging but I just used a tip from an empty can. Need to spray this outside and cover anything close. OK that sounds like normal logic but I have sprayed many things with spray paint in my garage and this paint just went everywhere and was really tacky on things, more so than other spray paint. Not sure why it just filled the air and floated 10 feet away, my fault but created some clear up issues. Moved the job outside with no wind and it worked out better.

I definitely prefer their 2x coverage, but still, RustOleum paint is my favorite, over every other department store brands carried! And I've never received a faulty can from Amazon, whereas that seems to happen about about 1 in 10 at the big box stores.

Rust-Oleum always has the best all weather spray paint. It’s bright; covers well in one coat, dries fast, and last a long time. I have been using it for over 40 years. If I’m painting a well rusted and pitted surface and can’t get in all the crevices to remove the rust I use Rust-Oleum Rust Remover as a base coat.

I love it. I apply it every year to my mailbox (usually two coats, waiting around 3-4 hours to apply the second coat) I've done this for 4 years now and my mailbox looks brand new. The neighbors that haven't have major rusting and fading from the sun. I can cover my entire mailbox (the post, actual mailbox, etc) with around a third of a can. My first can went through 3 applications (3 years in a row) So for roughly a $1 a year it's well worth it in my opinion, not to mention it has many other uses:)

Rust-Oleum is the best to use if you are working with metals. Not only it prevents rust, but it also looks nice, and the color lasts a long time. In my experience, I have used Rust-Oleum spray cans to paint trailers, truck frames, and industrial equipment I build. Anytime I work with metal I use Rust-Oleum. I never have had problems, although the past few years I have had a few bottles where the top plastic spray button got clogged and stopped working, so I'm not sure if they changed that part, but it's rare and I just use the plastic part off an old can and it works great.

Great coverage, good gloss and will spray until there is no more paint in the can. Worth every penny. Usually use this for the frame of vehicles with light rust, remove with a wire wheel, prime with Rust-oleum grey primer and top with this. One coat of each is usually sufficient for even coverage.
