What a difference from the so called helping hands circuit board holder, which is pure junk. Yes this is more expensive - but it holds the board securely and it is very easy to frequently manipulate it to place components and then rotate to solder it. The base well is very well designed to hold components while you complete your project. The solder spool and the soldering iron holders are well placed.

Overall, I would highly recommend it to anyone who solders.

This thing is a huge improvement from the ad-hoc jigs I was using before.

However, the joint that controls the angle of the upper portion isn't as strong as it ought to be -- if you press too hard on your work it will "slip", causing potentially-catastrophic results. This happens no matter how much you torque the knob.

On the other hand, there's nothing better out there, so you might as well get this.

I bought this work station because I was tired of holding motherboards while trying to solder capacitors on them. This thing works perfectly. The included track is wide enough to fit most motherboards and you can purchase others if you need to hold something larger. There are many different adjustment points, which I view as both a good and bad thing because it's sometimes difficult to get the board positioned in the right place, but also gives you very fine control. The vise arms adjust approximately, then a spring-loaded lever tightens them to hold the board firmly. The reservoirs in the base are great for holding screws and electronic components. I really like the soldering iron stand attached to the base, because I hate having a separate soldering station. Overall, if you do any kind of work with circuit boards, I highly recommend this product!

First of all I do like Panavise products and have purchased them before but they are expensive and I am finding that their quality control is not up to snuff. This latest purchase proved once again - the thumb screw for left pcb holder would not take. The hole made was way to big. I spoke to Panavise and only after sending in the thumb screws and pcb holders did they send a new one back. Very disappointing especially when you have everything for a project and now had to put it on hold because of this. I will say that Panavise customer service was polite and responded quickly to my issue.

The base is solid and very heavy - very pleased with this. I just was not expecting how BIG this is once assembled. I am glad to see they have accessories you can add to either increase the width of pcb by buying a longer bar or you could add other functionality by replacing the t-bar with something else.

Not sure I would be using the soldering items that come in the kit because I already have a dedicated soldering iron station.You also get better value buying the kit instead of individual parts.

The quality of the casting on the jaws is questionable. The quick release is gimmicky. A lot of boards won't fit because they are oddly shaped and/or have components too close to the edge. When a pcb doesn't fit in this thing, it really doesn't hold at all.

This is only good for medium-large rectangular boards without components on the edge. I will not get a lot of use out of this.

Bought this for my son,an electrical engineering student, and he said this will hold just about any circuit board he would use. It holds solder, has a holder for the iron and tip cleaning sponges. base is sturdy and heavy with rubber pads so it won't move around. Overall he is very pleased with it.

This is my first PanaVise purchase. It's "okay." The cast aluminum parts are not very refined -- kind of poor, clunky quality -- functional, but not precision. Hard to explain. Maybe a little industrial and crude?

The vise edges/v-grove is not really the best for small SMD boards, whereby the components are near the edge of the board. That's very popular these days, with LED electronics getting smaller.

It is nice and heavy, which will more than hold any PCB/MCPCB, however the extra iron and spool holder is rarely needed for guys, like me, with heavy duty Hakko holders, etc.. The sponges...yeah, okay!!..like those cheap flat dehydrated sponges all the Chinese products ship with. But they may be helpful one day in a pinch.

All in all, I was expecting to be wowed and impressed. In the end, I got another tool, which is American made. That, in itself, says a lot.
