I also had the same problem. I checked the lock before I left the house and it was secure.. meaning I tugged on it and it would not budge. I did this because I read the "Missing in Action" post. When I got home the lock was gone....I plan to contact someone as this should not happen...

Update.... I am raising my rating due to Softride's customer service. I emailed Softride and they are sending me out a new lock. I called and spoke to Jeff per his email, and he stated that is important to install the lock on the pin before tightening the bolt....helps ensure the lock seats right. I will follow this sequence of steps and see if helps.

I had a bumper hitch before so I never experienced the "clanking" or "yanking" of a regular hitch system. After about 4 trips dealing with the clanking & yanking and stopping to double check that everything was okay, I had had enough. After doing a couple hours of online research I decided on the Softride 25219 QuietRide Hitch Pin. The price was reasonable and the comments I read lead me to this choice. The installation was quick & simple. The results were as advertized. I no longer have the clanking and no longer feel the yanking. Quit looking and buy this product.

The retainer that holds the bolt in side the hitch is made of plastic. Ours broke on first installation, leaving the retaining nut to spin freely inside. This happened before the bolt/nut was tight. Fortunately, I was able to jamb a screwdriver up the backside of the hitch to hold the nut in place to get it off.

Bought the UHaul one instead. It was made of all metal parts and cost half the price.

I bough this by accident. But it is amazing.

It stops the clanking sound and movement between my trailer, and the receiver hitch on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma Truck (with OEM Hitch).

It really does work as well as they say it does. I have recommended this to a lot of people. Softride is also super helpful to deal with if you ever need anything, they really stand behind their products.

Only thing I learned is that you need to tighten it with a 7/8" wrench AFTER putting the lock on hand-tightened pin. This way the lock will remain securely on the pin. This is outlined in the instructions, but it isn't totally intuitive, and honestly, I am bad at reading directions until after I encounter a problem.

I've had this hitch pin lock for about 18 months and it has worked flawlessly - and QUIETLY. It does EXACTLY what I wanted it to do, even under heavy loads. I don't understand the negative feedback but suspect these installations were being done with more strong arm than common sense.

I use this to quiet the ride when pulling either of my two utility trailers. I used to have to listen to the clankety-clank-clank as I traveled down the road. With this device, there is no more noise. It's not 100%, as you will still get an occasional noise, but only from the largest of bumps in the road.

I secured the pin and lock very easily and it seemed like it was all set. I drove about 3 hours and checked it and it was fine. I drove another 3 hours and the lock piece was gone. So be very very very carefull when you put on the lock. I was very carefull and I was 100% sure it was on correctly. So check it several times to make sure it is definitely secure. The pin alone will still keep your item attached so there is no safety issue.

Late model Jeep and Chrysler factory receiver hitches tend to have a lot of slop where the hitch slides in. My 2014 Ram had that problem and did a lot of clunking when I pulled a trailer. This hitch completely solved the problem. One drawback, in order to remove the hitch you need to have a wrench handy to uninstall the hitch pin. No big thing, just takes a few minutes.
