4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great, October 11, 2007
By Zombieflicker "Biff" (Florida, Fort Myers) - See all my reviews
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I haven't seen any reviews for this game (not only on Amazon, but anywhere), so I decided to give it a go. Before I begin, I want to point out that I am a big fan of the previous Crash games (not so much for Twin Sanity), so I was anticipating this for a while now. The first time I seen an advertisement for this was at the movie theaters. It looked like it would be fun, but then when it came out, nobody reviewed it.

My 8-year-old son begged me to buy it (I wanted Metroid), so I did and we are both having a blast with it. The only things similar to the older games I feel are the characters. Everything else looked and played like it was built from scratch. There are similarities with this game and the older games, but not much. One example is that the boxes that are plentiful with Mangos (or whatever there called)to smash and grab are present in this game, but are not as plentiful or seem as necessary as in the previous games.

The 2-player part of the game is cool because the 2nd player can come and go whenever they feel like it. It's nice for my family because my daughter gets bored of games easily and when my son gets stuck at a hard part (hard for him - this game is easy), I can jump in and help him out, then split whenever I want.

I recommend getting the Wii version because of the control scheme. The Wii remote functions change depending on what Titan Crash controls. Sometimes you use it as a Zapper, and sometimes it's necessary to pound it on your chest like a gorilla to use special abilities. Shaking the Wii remote also causes Crash to spin like in the previous games. I would say graphically, the game would probably be on par with the PS2. I haven't seen the PS3 or XBOX version yet to compare.

Even though it's different from previous Crash entries, I gave it a four out of five mainly because it's still unique and the multiplayer function is pretty original and works great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Alright game, but. doesn't feel like a Crash game., November 24, 2007
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
Wow, what happened to this franchise? This game is allright, but in no way is it as good as any of it predacessors. A Crash game is just not a Crash game without the trademark spin, collecting Wompa fruit, knocking head/bouncing into wooden boxes to get said wompa fruit/free guy/Aku Aku powerup/etc. Why did the villians have to get annoying dialogue when in battle with Crash? What happened to Crash's trademark "Woh!"? Speaking of dialogue, the current game has Crash going through puberty backwards, he seems more scronny, and has lost his touch. This just doesn't feel like a Crash game. Granted, Crash's usual formulla is a recycled version of Super Mario Bros., but it at least that worked. This just isn't a Crash game. This is the Super Mario Bros. 2/Super Mario Sunshine of the Crash series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comical and Fun, but is it really Crash's Style? (by Laura), February 29, 2008
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a fun game, but don't be fooled... It's pretty different from previous Crash Bandicoot games. Although I haven't played the game much, I know it well enough to give you the Bad, Neutral, and Good, in that order. Please don't just read the Bad, before making the decision on whether or not this game is good for you.

The Bad:

1. The potty humor. I mean, really, who decided potty humor was humor at all anyway?! That's just my opinion, I don't mean any offense to those who *yuck!* enjoy the type of humor like what is in this game... Still, there are many jokes better than this type that a larger audience could relate to. In a cutscene before the game starts, Crash burps and Coco congratulates him for it (whatever happened to teaching children good manners?). Then, if you press the action button near Crash's home on the first level, he'll go in and use the bathroom facillity... While you, of course, don't see anything, the sound of a toilet flushing for a bandicoot gives worse visuals than one should really bear. Also, you destroy Neo Cortex's "Spy Toilets" to get rewards. SPY TOILETS?! I'm only glad they didn't show us how Cortex designed this invention... This is only at the beginning of the game. Who knows what other nasty jokes made it in here?

2. Dull plot. Let's face it, it's been done a thousand times in videogame history: _____ gets kidnapped, and _____ must rescue him/her. Fill the first blank with Coco and Aku Aku, and the second blank with Crash and you have your main plot. This is unoriginal and lame. The only thing keeping me going storywise is that I'm curious to see if there's any more information about how Crash came to be (watch the stuff that shows when you first access the game).

The Neutral:

1. Crash's attacks. While Crash's "spin" made it in here, he starts out with a slap attack that, frankly, makes him look like a sissie. It's funny, but at the same time sad... New moves, like an Aku Aku guard, have been added; which gives this game an oddly unique feel. Whether this good or not I'll leave up to you; as you may or may not be disappointed that Crash has become a sissie. I don't really care, but I also must wonder; does an old bandicoot like this really deserve such downgrading?

2. The changes made to the appearance of the characters. This drives me crazy in Crash games: they can't ever leave a good character design alone! Coco looks alright, but incredibly different, and Crash hasn't changed much; but Aku Aku looks awful, like he's obese, and Crunch's head is too small. Again, I don't really care; but do they really deserve this?

3. The new lingo. Overlooking the potty humor, there's also kind of a sarcasticish humor in the speech as well. The comments by Aku Aku (particuarly on the Titan descriptions), and the comments by the villains, to me, are droll; they make the game more enjoyable for me, but is this kind of stuff really what young children should be learning?

The Good:

1. The backgrounds. They're really designed quite nicely. The forest levels were lush and realistically cartoonish (does that make sense?) and the temples looked ancient enough with their cracks. It's not the very best I've ever seen, but it's pretty decent.

2. Hijacking the Titanic monsters and riding them is pretty awesome. Each Titan has unique abilities that are fun to abuse. I believe the monster with the greatest physical strength is the Shellephant (it can take out many other monsters it's size with two blows!).

3. The music. Not bad music at all. It has kind of an old "Tribal" feel to it (it's easier to recognize than describe). It's kind of a different feel than the normal tunes we associate with Crash.

Conclusion:
That's all I have to say. Overall, if the changes are bearable, and if your child is very mature mannerism wise, then I don't have much I can say against purchasing it. Just becareful that it doesn't negatively effect the behavior of young children (potty humor is not okay!). Hopefully, the changes aren't different enough to upset hard core Crash fans.
