The description of this unit is sketchy, at best. I bought it to replace the original thermostat for a 120V ceiling mounted fan forced bathroom heater, and it works great. The Honeywell is 4 wire and 2 wire capable, 120V or 240V, has no minimum load requirement, and can handle up to 5280 watts @ 240V. The feature I like best is "positive off", plus the fact it is so much more accurate the the old POS. I deducted 1 star for the description and somewhat confusing instructions (for a simple old handyman like me).

Have installed this item to switch an outlet powering ceramic heaters in a back yard cat kennel/shed/pen for 5 feral cats we have rescued over the years.

Though we have it set to 55 degrees F this has settings as low as 35 degrees. Great for protecting pipes in a utility shed or room. Others I have found their lowest settings to be much higher about 50 degrees which is a bit high for that purpose.

Installed this winter season 2010 and still working well for our purpose.

Fyi though my installation only switched 120V will also switch 240V loads as its has a double pole / single throw switch inside.

My sister and I moved into a new place a few months ago, and each room has a thermostat and fan-forced electric heaters in the wall. All of the thermostats are broken, so that, no matter what temperature you set them to, they turn the heat on full-blast and never turn it off. The only thermostat/heater on the first floor didn't even work at all. No heat! I would like to have programmable thermostats in each room, but it isn't realistic. Too expensive. The Honeywell thermostat is a good compromise for replacing old thermostats that don't work properly anymore. Once I get another one installed, it should lower our electric bill, because right now we can't always manually turn the heat off when the temperature gets high enough, so it gets too hot and we waste energy and money.

Anyway, I wasn't sure if this thermostat would fix the problems we were having--I thought it might work as poorly as our old units. But it's great! We used it to replace the totally broken thermostat, and now the heat works again (we hadn't been sure whether it was the thermostat or the heater causing problems). The new thermostat turns off when it gets within a few degrees of the set temperature.

But, for moderate DIYers like myself...if you don't have the equipment (possibly a multimeter/circuit tester, electrical tape, twist-on wire connectors, whatever) and the knowledge to install the thermostat, do not mess with this project on your own, especially if you're troubleshooting a heater that isn't working. This thermostat uses relatively high voltage (240V in our case), and you could injure yourself or possibly die if you screw up. Really like the look and function of the thermostats. I bought 4 and installed them in 4-wire mode replacing older existing thermostats in our vacation cabin that didn't have positive on/off. 3 of them worked fine, but the fourth wouldn't power on the baseboard heater. After first re-installing the old thermostat to be certain that I didn't have a bad circuit breaker or loose wiring, I got out my VOM and discovered that the positive on/off wasn't closing the circuit. Since I was beyond the Amazon return period, I called Honeywell support because the thermostats have a 12-month warranty. Judging by the accents, the support center is offshore in India, it appears. After being subjected to their standard menu checklist and answering their questions for 30 minutes, they insisted that I had to re-install the thermostat in 2-wire mode to "prove" that it didn't work. As an electrical engineer who has completely wired my home, I tried to convince them that I knew what I was doing but to no avail. So now I have to go back up to the cabin, re-install the defective thermostat while I have them on the phone to "prove" what I already know! Nice thermostats, wish I could say the same for Honeywell support! No complaints with the Amazon seller of the thermostats, they shipped quickly and correctly.

Bought this Honeywell thermostat to control a 1500 watt oil filled electric heater in a 400 sq ft park model trailer. The thermostat is located across room from heater location (approximately 10 feet away). Its an improvement on the heater internal thermostat but still not great.

Initially my thermostat has to be set about 2F below desired temperature to keep from starting at a higher than desired room temperature. This would be okay if the differential was constant, but its not. After the thermostat switches on the heater, it has to be adjusted progressively higher to keep the heater operating. With the room temperature at 69F we turned thermostat up till it cut-in heater, over a 10 minute period we had to turn the thermostat an additional 5F to keep the heater engaged even though the room temperature did not change significantly over the 10 minute period. It seems to have a very aggressive anticipator that increases the thermostat temperature much faster than the actual room temperature and there does not seem to be anyway to adjust the anticipator.

I was hoping for a set and forget thermostat and this is not that. Might work better if the heater is located in a small well insulated room.
