5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Product that was DEFECTIVE, December 28, 2007
I tried buying one of these from TigerDirect and it arrived with a manufacturer defect - Tiger offered to refund me, and Adesso would not honor the manufacturers warranty. This keyboard is AMAZING and very powerful for saving your body from the rigor of typing all day. Just make sure you do not get one from the defective lot!

I should have just gotten one from Amazon in the first place...

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I need., June 26, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just bought this, the third I have owned over the past 11 years. Each of the previous held up nicely for about 5 years. This seems to be the ONLY desktop keyboard that meets my need for A TOUCH PAD. Mouses (or "mice") take a terrible toll on my wrist and shoulder.
Will it hold up as well as the previous models? I can't say, but have noted a few critical reviews on Amazon. This latest version cost 2/3 of what I paid previously. Does this reflect less quality? Less durability? Only time will tell. I only rate this FOUR STARS because some of the other reviews make me question how good this latest model is; thus far it is Five Stars, as were the previous.

UPDATE. I've been using the keyboard for three months, and can report only one "issue." "NUM LOCK" light wants to stay on even after computer is shut off. Solution: push the "NUM LOCK" key before machine shuts off; often this must be done TWICE, since at first the light goes off then quickly reappears. Otherwise everything seems to work fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best thing out there -- but room for improvement, June 1, 2009
I'm a programmer so I live on my keyboard all day. I rub grooves into the space bar and rub the paint off some of the keys. In my 20+ years of programming I've tried almost everything to improve my keyboard experience, including spending six months learning an exotic key layout for an exotic ergonomic keyboard called a Maltron. The exotics weren't any better or faster than this one. I do appreciate the ergonomics of the split keyboard vs a traditional one, and I strongly prefer a touchpad to a mouse because you never have to make room on your desk to roll it and it makes transitioning back and forth between a desktop and a laptop easier.

I generally keep one of these at home and one at the office. That said, I am just about to buy my 4th or 5th one. Every time I buy one I look around to see if anyone but Adesso is making an ergonomic keyboard with touchpad. The answer is still no, so I'm still going to buy this one today. The problem is that the keyboard is cheaply made. The key action is not entirely satisfactory, and the keycaps do come off occasionally. Eventually after a few years of heavy usage the things wear out and you need to replace them.

In all my years of using multiple copies of an Adesso touchpad ergonomic keyboard across multiple different computers and versions of Windows (NT, 98, Millennium, XP, Vista) I've never had a problem where the keyboard or touchpad stopped responding and the unit needed to be plugged and unplugged like one of the other reviewers encountered. I just lose the occasional keycap and yearn for the old days of the solid keyclicks of the original IBM AT keyboards. The factory has always been good about sending replacement keycaps at no charge when I ask.

The touchpad works really well. I have a Sony wireless keyboard with integrated touchpad that I use for my HTPC, and this touchpad runs rings around that one in terms of responsiveness. For really intensive graphics work, a Wacom tablet and mouse do work a little better, but I'm an amateur photographer and retoucher and I have made Photoshop sing with this touchpad. The touchpad comes with a lite texture on it, but I have polished it smooth through constant use.
