Ingredients
Active Ingredient: Docosanol (10%). Inactive Ingredients: Benzyl Alcohol, Light Mineral Oil, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, Sucrose Distearate, Sucrose Stearate.

Directions
Press pump completely about 6-8 times to get first dose.
Adults and children 12 years or over:
Wash hands before and after applying cream.
Apply to affected area on face or lips at the first sign of cold sore/fever blister (tingle).
Early treatment ensures the best results.
Rub in gently but completely.
Use 5 times a day until healed.
Children under 12 years: ask a doctor.
Other information.
Store at 20 degrees - 25 degrees C (68 degrees - 77 degrees F).
Do not freeze.

This new pump version of Abreva is HORIBBLE! There's no way to get a small amount no matter how gently or softly you press the button on top. It's either one huge glob (because the button went all the way down) or nothing. You just don't need that much product! Whoever designed this pump must have had one thing in mind: make the user dispense WAY more than he/she needs so that it empties faster and makes him/her buy more Abreva! Don't waste your money on this version no matter how good the bargain looks. Get the tube so you can control how much of the product comes out and so that you don't waste any of this admittedly expensive (but effective) product.

I've used Abreva for years and thought I would give the pump a try. The product is much more difficult to use in this form than the small tube. The "ointment" coming out of the pump is too thin and watery and the pump mechanism does not work well causing you to waste a lot of product.

I've suffered from cold sores since I was in elementary school. Back then all I could do was run cold water over my lips and ask my mother for the numbing toothache medicine to soothe the pain.

Nowadays I rarely get a cold sore, but they're highly inconvenient when I do, so I finally caved in and tried Abreva as soon as I felt the ever-so familiar itch on my lip. I followed the directions--5-6 times a day application. Even woke up in the middle of the night to apply.

Results? I didn't have a full blown break out this time, and the one blister that did break out was fairly small and unnoticeable. Five days after the first itch the area has scabbed over completely.

I highly recommend this product to anyone suffering from cold sores. The key is to be vigilant. Buy this NOW before you feel the twinge. As soon as you feel it, apply the creme. Be diligent. Apply the creme 5-6 times per day. Let the creme soak in and dry up on your lip. Be hygenic. Wash your hands before and after applying the creme.

This product may not work for everyone, but it worked for me.

As many have stated the new pump dispenser for abreva is just NOT worth it.

Pros
Hard container MAY withstand more impact if you have this in a purse or a tool bag.

Cons
THE PUMP SUCKS!!!
There is no way to get a little out, which is all you need.
The pump is hard to squirt and I usually end up with it everywhere.
The nozzle of the pump is directly against the cap so it makes a mess inside if you don't clean the pump off after each use.
Much bigger the the regular tube so if you are trying to be inconspicuous its not going to happen.

So overall I would recommend Abreva but not this pump. If you are going to buy, by the tube!!

The plastic pump is awful and very difficult to control the amount dispensed. Its also impossible to know how much is left until it simply does not work. The medication itself is good, just purchase it in the tube and not the pump.

Abreva works great. I feel my cold sore coming on which I get at least twice a year, and I start putting abreva on it right away before it has a chance to turn into an open sore and I end up not getting the open sore. Do not waste your money on the pump. Like another reader said it's horrible. They charge a lot of money and it totally sucks. I'm sure they have gotten complaints, but I'm sure they don't care. They make a lot of money that way.

I've tried many things to cure cold sores and, like the adage for colds, if you treat it, it will get better in 7 days, if you don't, it will take a week. Abreva seems to do better. It's rather expensive for the amount you get but with diligent use it will cure a cold sore in 2-4 days.

I suffer with cold sore for a long time. When im stressed, fever, colds and extreme change of weather triggers it. Anti viral medication would help reduce the healing process but you have to get it by prescription.

Abreva i observed at times does reduce the days of healing process and limits the break out. But sometimes maybe depends on the level of how low your immune system at the time, it doesnt make any difference. So im giving it 3. If you want to use this apply strictly as indicated and on top of that i take vitc 1g, vit e, and l lysine 1g. A lot of rest too.
