Every 1 star review, and many or most of the others as well, cited one issue; the bit was very difficult to remove and required pliers. The tool states it's impact ready, which to me means it has to hold the bits a lot tighter to handle the impact action of those tools. For those of us whom do not use impact tools, removing the metal ring inside is the answer as the magnet alone is generally strong enough. But, I feel many people gave low ratings without understanding that this particular product was rated for use in tougher scenerios than just everyday screwdriving and that the very tight grip on the bits was for a reason by design.
Some people noted that they couldnt push on it when bent at an angle, but I found it worked quite well to hold on to the black collar as I was drilling/screwdriving allowing it to spin within the collar and enabling me to impart a much more direct force into the material I was drilling/driving and keeping it bent at the angle the entire time.
I personally enjoyed this product and it worked well for me. I am of the mind that needing pliers is no big hassle since if it's a small project where I don't have multiple tools near already then it's probably not a big time saver to tighten in this bit tip holder instead of the bit itself into my driver. In the case of any medium to large job, pliers are probably out already and just a reach away.

Many of the reviews for this product erroneously slam it because of its O-ring retention system which requires pliers to remove the bit. I have this tool in my tool box and it works very well for what it is intended to do. Yes, there could be an improvement to the bit removal, but what's there works fine and literally guarantees the inserted Dewalt bit will not erroneously fall out. Note that the Dewalt bits I use with this tool have a slight cut in their collar specifically to be held in place by the O-ring. Other 1/4" hex shank products do not have this cut and can be easily inserted and removed - without the use of pliers.

For those who want only a magnetic retention system, Dewalt makes an alternative product: DeWalt DWPVTDRV3 Magnetic Impact Ready Pivot Nutsetter. This set of three nut drivers have the following features:

Product Features
- Product designed for use in Impact drivers and wrenches
- Recessed corners = drives on flats which minimzes shavings
- Indrustrial strength magnet maximizes fastener retention
- Pivoting product pivots up to 20 degrees allowing one to get into tight spaces or corners
- Extra-strength magnet for superior bit retention

So if you cannot tolerate the Dewalt DWPVTHLD Pivoting Bit Tip Holder with Ring, then use the 1/4" tool in the DeWalt DWPVTDRV3 Magnetic Impact Ready Pivot Nutsetter. The set costs a little more, but you get the tool you want plus two others. Hope this helps you.

Update:
The "stuck bit" complaint is really a non-issue. The bit release becomes easier with use and I've found overall, that I prefer the tight fit; it prevents the bit from falling out when I don't want it to. If you have ever been up on an extension ladder and watched your bit fall 20 ft to the landscaping below, you might agree.

This bit holder has become, more or less, a permanent fixture on my impact driver. There are just too many instances when I need that small bit of offset to get into tight places. Long bits, like drill bits, do tend to wobble, but I've found that the wobble stops once the bit bites into whatever I'm drilling. With use and practice, I find it easier to add and remove bits from this bit holder than from those with sliding collars. Just pull out the old bit and pop in the new one. Nothing else to fiddle with. Like any tool, you have to learn how to use it.

Original Review:
I haven't had this bit holder for very long, so I can't attest to durability, but it seems well built. I purchased it for a specific job and it worked quite well for that, allowing me to drive screws in otherwise inaccessible locations. I have found that if you push the angle to its limits, the end will wobble and not work well. But if you keep the angle below the limit, it works ok, even with an impact driver. Still, it takes some practice to get the hang of controlling the tip.

Changing bits is difficult. I have to use pliers to remove small screwdriver bits, but hex nut bits can be removed easily because you can get a good grip on them without pliers. That aspect doesn't bother me too much since reading that Dewalt did it that way intentionally in order to prevent bit loss while using impact drivers.

I think I can bring small bit of closure to this. But only a small amount. And only because of the preceding multiple evaluations. Thank heavens for those; I was beating my head against the wall. It was so good to find out it wasn't just me.

Just bought the same pivoting holder - with the same !!%!%^#+! stuck bit - at the local Home Depot. Using a Leatherman did not help. Required Vise-Grips to hold onto the bit, and then pull hard. Finally the bit came out. And then sacrificed a couple old cheap jeweler's screwdrivers to pry out the spring that is causing all the trouble.

Well, here's the bit of closure. On the regular DeWalt holder (non-pivoting), when we pull back the black collar, that collar pulls down a straight black bar, thus freeing the bit. On the pivoting bit, pulling back the collar does absolutely nothing to free the bit! So instead of the engineered system on the regular holder, we have only a brute-force system that holds the bit and does not release it willingly. Unless you want to change bits with a pair of Vise-Grips.

So don't worry about pulling back the collar. It does not affect the bit at all. The only thing THIS collar does, is let you choose between pivoting and locked (non-pivoting).

Looking at the first review, we find this problem has gone on for at least 1 1/2 years. Sorry. Let's hope we fix our own mistakes faster than this manufacturer does.

Good luck.
