I have given these to several family members in the past, then they suddenly were no longer available. This model is pretty much the same as the older one, and I find this item to be extremely useful for everyone! I have arthritis in my hands, and sometimes find it hard to open a new screw-top lid, even the ones on plastic bottles. This will conform to just about any diameter you need, and is a lifesaver! So I bought several to give to those that I had not given them to previously!

Works fair. Hard to use because you have to open the device so wide it's hard to get your hand around the handles to apply force. Also the lips are too shallow. They don't go down over the bottle cap far enough to get a good hold on it and frequently just slip off the top damaging the plastic top of the bottle.

Don't buy this tool.

one that really works. i recently ordered an opener from vermont country store. what a piece of doodoo that was. since i would have had to pay for return shipping, i just threw it in the trash.
this one actually grips every jar i tried it on and turns/opens with ease.
it seems very sturdy and well made too.

The item I received was not the item pictured on the site. What I got is also a jar opener but not the one I expected. I thought I was buying one just like what Mom had in her kitchen while I was growing up - a simple hinged gizmo with a couple of diamond shaped bends that would accommodate a wide range of jar lids. The item pictured looked like it had a rubberized/plastic coating for grip over a fairly smooth metal tube. What I got looks a lot like the suggested product listed on this page, Leifheit-Extra-Stainless-Opener-Silver. It works, but I don't think it can address as wide a range of sizes and is a much more complex design than the tool I thought I was purchasing.

Too difficult to use with my arthritis and it does not have a good grip on the jars. Some jars could not be opened at all with this product.

I bought this one to augment another of near identical design. I put the old one in the bathroom to use for opening vitamin jars and nasal spray bottles. I like this new one a bit better than the old one and I use it in the kitchen for opening water bottles and various sized other jars. It completely meets my needs and makes my arthritic hands a non factor in the process. Personally I couldn't live without it.

I purchased this because it was in the package & very similar to one I bought at a garage sale years ago. It was advertised as Stainless Steel. When it came it was not stainless steel but chrome. I called Amazon & they said they would refund 10%. I stupidly took the refund.
We are snowbirds & I put it in the box for Florida! This week I tried to open 2 different size jars... It just slipped off the top of them and would not open them...one jar was Ragu and the other was a different size pickle jar. This does not work like my old Garage Sale cheap one back up North!!. When we go home in the Spring I will take it and try to figure out the difference.

This lid gripper works very well. it also can grip smaller caps also.
You need to watch your fingers in case the jaws of the gripper slip off the lid, and it is easy to apply too much pressure which may damage the lid for reuse. This is a great kitchen tool - recommended.
