Okay, here are the stats on EAS AdvantEDGE chocolate fudge carb control ready-to-drink shake: 100 calories for 11 fluid ounces, which contain 15 grams of protein and 4 total carbs. Minus 2 of fiber would be about 2 impact carbs, though the label says 1. So, either 1 or 2, depending on how you calculate it. I did say 100 calories, right?

This is my fave of the low-carb, high-protein drinks. Why? Cause it tastes like YooHoo and I grew up as a kid loving a chilled bottle of YooHoo. If that's a flavor that works for you--a sort of sweet and watery version of chocolate milk--then this might be a fine addition to your protein snack roster.

Notice I say snack. I don't think 100 calories makes for a satisfying meal. This drink doesn't carry the satisfaction punch of the gross-textured SlimFast Optima, and it doesn't carry the filling power of an Atkins shake (Eww, didn't like). But EAS Chocolate Fudge AdvantEDGE tastes good (to me), and it's low enough in calories that it's a good between meal snack to keep the blood sugar steady and the binge attacks at bay.

So, for a nice, cool, sweet, YooHoo-ey snack, here ya go. But if you are going to use it for meal-replacement, add something to it, a garden salad, some fruit and a bit of low-fat or fat-free cheese to get you up closer to a proper meal calorie range.

Oh, and shake VERY VERY VERY WELL, or you'll end up with some gross choco-sludge at the bottom of your can. That's not a good thing.

Thumbs up!

I drink one of these shakes for breakfast every day and have one for a snack. I've lost over 100 lbs this past year on a low carb diet.

Unless you subscribe to the "fats are free" hype you will want a low-carb, low-fat, high-protein drink. This is the ONLY one I have found that meets all three criteria. I like the taste and drink at least one a day, usually in the morning mixed with about 6 oz. coffee.

However, I can't agree with those who say there is no aftertaste. Offer it to someone who isn't ready to compromise for their diet and they will reject it.

For me, a busy fat guy with some concerns about glycemic control, it's wonderful. I have never found anything I like better.

I've tried all the AdvantEDGE flavors except the caramel. I usually use Premier Protein shakes, but tried these because they were considerably less expensive (if purchased via Subscribe & Save) and have 60% fewer calories. Via S&S they are even less expensive than if you buy the same ones at Sams Club, at least at the time I am writing this. All the ones I bought from Amazon also have the screw lids, which they don't always have from Sams Club (easier to drink, and less messy when finished).

The Premier Protein shakes tastes better and are thicker, probably both due to the extra protein and calories. The AdvantEDGE shakes do not taste particularly bad, but there is a definite multivitamin aftertaste (except for the Strawberry, which I'll get to). The AdvantEDGE shakes are also considerably thinner, which is actually my biggest complaint. They don't seem quite as filling, though even if you have one extra per day you'll still save on money and calories.

The regular chocolate fudge tastes similar to the chocolate Premier, though not quite as good and with a little aftertaste. The dark chocolate tastes like the Atkins shakes, and was my least favorite (though still not bad). The vanilla was similar to the Premier, though again not quite as good. The biggest surprise was the Strawberry Cream. It not only tasted very good, but had no noticeable aftertaste. The taste reminded me of a McDonalds strawberry milkshake, only with the consistency of water (I happen to like the McDonalds strawberry shakes, you might not).

As for the significantly less protein compared to the Premier shakes, I'm of two minds on the subject.

On a week-long liquid pre-op diet, and I couldn't do it without these drinks. I agree that the chocolate flavor is the best, but the cafe-caramel almost takes like it's titles flavor (but with a slight aftertaste). Very filling, lots of protein, low sugars, nice taste- what else could you ask for?

i do like these shakes alot, must keep them COLD for best taste. ive tried 4 flavors and only buy 1 now.

chocolate fudge 5/5 -- my favorite, taste alot like chocolate milk. to ME this has absolutely no protein taste or after taste. very easy to drink and i highly recommend it! EXCEPT ...where i live u can get this close to $4 at walmart, little pricey here.

rich dark chocolate 3/5 -- the taste is OK ..i CAN drink them, theyre not my favorite though. i dont know if its bc its dark chocolate but its got a little bit of a bitterness to it for me, and not as sweet. i definitely pick the other chocolate flavor over this one.

strawberry 3/5 -- this has a good initial taste, but then quickly turns not so good. it reminds me of when ur at the dentist and they put their gloved hands in ur mouth, that kind of taste. i dont really care for it, but theyre DRINKABLE.

vanilla 2/5 -- least favorite right here, just like with strawberry has a pretty good beginning taste then quickly heads south, has the same after taste. i cant tell if its metallic or what. this one is also DRINKABLE.

have not tried the caramel although i would like to, ive never seen it in the store though.

i only truly recommend the chocolate fudge. and im honestly not even a chocolate lover, but it is very good. hope these help, not everyone has the same taste! good luck!

CHECK THE STORE SHELVES FIRST!!!
