Yamaha did it again. This is an awesome powered mixer. Plenty of power, very clean sound, excellent effects and features. I am extremely happy with it. I had a 6 channel 200w x 2 Yamaha EMX mixer that I used hard for 12 years for over 200 shows a year, many on decks near the ocean in salt air and it never failed and is still working. It's now my backup system. I expect to get the same dependability from this new EMX512SC 8 channel 500w x 2 mixer. I am Yamaha all the way from my mixer to my speakers and my 12 string Compass series and APX guitars. Yamaha rocks!

Just picked up a unit for an outdoor event and it delivered as expected. Sounds great and powerful - I beleive the 2 x 500 Watts rating. On the input side I did not find anything more to ask for, it is indeed very well endowed. I am holding back one star because I expected a more versatile power supply spec - swichable or free voltage supply to handle both US and International power supply as many others now do.

I bought this mixer (with two Yamaha speakers), the whole thing has been working rock solid for 3 years now. Still going on without any problem. This is the quality that I paid for.
The unit is compact to take to gig. The speakers are of course a little bulky but that's how they are to deliver 500watts peak each.
It has built in effects so singers and guitarists have effects at hand. I use effects for both vocal and my guitar.
My keyboard also goes in here (no effects) and the sound this set delivers is awesome.

Strangely enough I purchased this unit to go into my huge new garage, maybe a party or two, but mostly just wanted clean music and some quality in the build and power for when I'm restoring cars...my hobby. I basically set myself a budget, and put most of my money in the powered mixer and less in the speakers, but balanced the RMS power correctly. The buttons and knobs have a real feel of quality, not loose or scratchy, the cabinet is not as heavy made as I've seen in other, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Where I really like this unit is, price was good and it sounds great. Myself being an engineer, I like to tweak knobs and push button, go figure. I have two 15" Seismic Audio 2 way speakers, the Pro DJ Series and it is very, very clean...sitting in my dining room, can barely get it off the second notch, probably about 25% power. I have an 18" Seismic Audio powered Sub also, but don't have the cables yet from Amazon to try that...that should add some depth, but what I'm hearing now sounds really good. I am NOT an audio expert, I do software and defense related work, but I have built some pretty awesome stereos in my time. The sound from this mixer is very clean, the unit does not seem to get hot or make an exhorbitant amount of noise. Overall I am VERY pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend this unit. Right in the middle of the range, the model below this one does not have enough power and the model above this one had too much power for my application. I'm listening to it now as I type this...and there is a "Man Cave" party in the Fall on the schedule. Everyone have fun, you won't go wrong with this unit, Yamaha builds good stuff.

I've gigged with this mixer for 2 years straight at Frat parties, weddings, and bars. The thing has taken a couple of 3 ft falls on its side, working in 90 degree heat in the sun, and working on a not so stable wooden stage many, many times. It has worked flawlessly through it all and was the best purchase our band has made in terms of value for enabling us to take any gig knowing that our sound will be enough. We have run vocals, bass, keyboards, and drum mics through it on all inputs along with an mp3 player for set breaks and it has been perfect. The thing is an all plastic shell but it is a tank. Great product, would replace it with another if it got stolen or somehow finally bit the dust.

This EMX512 replaced my previous Yamaha EMX640 - which I purchased in 1988!
Still working on getting comfortable with this unit, but it is very clean sounding and plenty of power for the music groups I play with.
My suggestion to Yamaha is to create a in-depth how to' video for this product.

I recently bought the Yamaha EMX512SC to use with two of my own MTX Audio ThunderPro 2’s and it works like an absolute charm. The power supply it came with was undamaged and worked fine. The eight XLR inputs all worked without any sort of feedback or distortion, along with the four quarter inch inputs in the first four channels. The two left and right quarter inch mono lines worked as well with the same clarity. The two separate RCA inputs allows for a wide range of third party things to be connected to this mixer, such as a Bluetooth receiver or an iPhone.
For all of the knobs, they are all plastic but feel relatively sturdy. They are sensitive, but don’t expect wonders with plastic knobs. All of the frequency knobs cover a decently large range of frequency, and because of that, cannot be expected to EQ their specific channels as easily or accurately as a larger mixer. Also, since there is only one effect knob per channel, it severely limits what effects can be put on what and will force you to choose between multiple relevant effects. However, to combat this, this mixer does have a quarter inch effect output which would allow you to connect an external effects board to this mixer. The graphic EQ’s cover all of the necessary frequencies but again, because this is a smaller mixer, cannot cover every possible frequency. With that being said, the sliders are very durable and sensitive.
One of my favorite things about this mixer is how convenient it makes everything. From the standby button to the already built in limiters to the phantom power, which many other small mixers like this one will not offer. Also the fact that in the back, there are both quarter inch and SpeakOn connections available makes it a very handy and versatile mixer.Read more ›
