Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Edward Furlong of TERMINATOR 2 and Rachael Bella of THE RING star as two teenage suburban outcasts who fall in love, spin out of control, and hit the road as fugitives, all captured through the unblinking lens of their video camera. In an American landscape scarred by violence, drugs, madness and murder, is their undying devotion the most extreme reality of all? William Sadler (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION) co-stars in this shocking and shockingly real
independent sensation that Skratch Magazine calls a
distinctly disturbing piece of true cinematic genius. This is the story of JIMMY AND JUDY.

3.0 out of 5 stars documentary styled journey of two misfits, January 24, 2008
I give this movie 3.5 stars, I really wish they had a fuller spectrum for rating. I thought this movie was great at filming the younger generation from their point of view but the movie overall fell short for me. If you're a younger viewer (under 25) or feel ignored by society, you will probably overlook any shortcomings and love it. From the first frame of the movie until the very last frame, the viewer watches the story unfold all through the eyes of a first point of view movie lens. We don't see Jimmy right away, we just hear him narrate his life. We know that he hates his supercilious parents with their outward conformity to society while being slaves to fetishes behind closed doors. We watch through a crack in their door as they role play. This scene, along with some others, seemed a little contrived which helped form my rating. We watch over and over again as Jimmy either acts out his anger at society or provides monologues on his views and some editing here would have been a welcomed relief. We then meet Judy, as viewed through the lens, being picked on at high school. Jimmy exacts retribution on Judy's behalf and shows his handy work as of course, it's all on film.

So starts the romance between these two misfits. Of course, no good can come of this union. Judy cannot stand Jimmy's occasional mandatory stays in the mental ward and they make a pact that they call "The Bond". They will stay together forever. Things spiral downward fast from here. The movie really picks up its pace as Judy commits involuntary manslaughter and then Jimmy commits murder to protect her. They now are on the run. Nowhere they hide seems to provide safe haven. Even the fringe element will not protect them. They are on their own. They control their own destiny and they choose each other until the end.

It has some good universal themes: us against the world; the younger generation against the older one; the outcasts of society banding together, waiting for it to implode so they can take over. All of them are thought provoking but this movie did not do them justice. After viewing, I would recommend this film to discontented youth or people who enjoy movies about that subject. This film runs a little over 2 hours and most of the beginning and unrealistic sections (aftermath of brutal beating et al.) should have been edited to provide a better film.
