i just saw these guys with beneath the massacre and a couple crappy bands. i had no idea how young these guys are (or look at least)!

regardless, there are some really solid tracks on this album along with some that feel a little under-developed. it is, like everyone else says, super-short which is somewhat of a letdown. however, the tracks are pretty technical, lots of start/stop work. the synth is a nice touch that creates a catchy groove to a lot of the tracks. i just hope these guys keep working at it because the have the potential to become a truly "epic" and brutal band.

Not their best album, but I really like Born of Osiris. There's something about their music that makes you open up and realize a few things about yourself. I like "Tomorrow We Die Alive" much, much more; but this album is not a complete loss by far.

This is one of my favorite albums from Born of Osiris. The New Reign stands out as one of those tracks that you will never stop listening to. Bow Down before BoS - these guys are ridiculously talented.

This band is awesome! While the disc may be a bit short, it leaves you wanting more. If you get a chance to see these guys live, they put on a great show.

Okay. First off, the musicality represented on this album is easily 5 stars. EASILY. The vocals took me a little bit of time to completely get used to because I typically don't dig these type of vocals (I'm more of a Textures/Meshuggah/LD50-era Mudvayne type of guy), but they really suit the music. It's really interesting to hear these vocals over some of their ambient passages. Quite different for me.

I gave this 4 stars for two reasons:

1 - The fact that this whole album clocks in at just over 20 minutes. That being said, the album doesn't feel that short when you're listening to it... you just end up recognizing the first song again and you're like, "wow, that was fast".

2 - The drum production on this CD is quite bad in the bass drum department. I'm not going to knock it too bad because I don't know who mixed the album, etc. You'll get used to it but if you're a stickler for production like I am, you'll definitely hear what I'm talking about. For their second album, this is really the only point of constructive criticism I have in regards to production. The rest of the album production isn't the best I've heard but it's certainly not the worst, either!

Those two points aside, this album is a really fun and entertaining listen. These guys are very talented and have a great sense of melody and groove. The keyboard is definitely a nice touch to add to the ambience of the melodic passages. Diminished licks seem to be a dime-a-dozen in this genre but these guys don't overuse them, and the progressions they DO use sound like fresh twists. If I were going to compare these guys to one band musically, it would be Sikth. They're not the same, but if you dig Sikth, you'll absolutely dig these guys.

This cd will ALWAYS be one of my absolute favorites. I've been following these guys since The New Reign and they just released The Discovery and nothing can really get as crushing as this album. I could talk about this one all day. If you notice, most progressive albums out, actually keep a certain 4/4 time in the background. Take one listen to the song The New Reign and you will be knocked on your ass. This CD is worth every penny. Totally crushing, melodic, and beautiful for a death metal/prog fan. This is one of those albums that belongs in every metalheads collection. It may be short, but it's amazing. Brace Legs is my favorite track, you CANT get any heavier, seriously.

im not one to be fussy about the length of an album, especially if its this good...i really enjoy listening to this album, they are similar to the faceless, but they take a more 'core' and less technical approach, which suits me better...lol the breakdown in abstract art is soo fricking cool

I pre-ordered this back when it was first released. I've had some good time to think on the album, and about a year and half after it's release, I still love it.

Let's start with the obvious, it's technical without being dizzying and it's short almost to a fault. The melodies follow a good harmonic balance against dissonance, never straying too far into any "specific" genre, maintains a good sound that remains very listen able. I've had the album in a frequent rotation since It's conception, never really getting tired of the tracks.

Recently in the last 4-5 months the rumor of the follow up album began, and sometime in early 2009 the album should be released. I have only two things to say, please make it longer, as this album is almost EP length but still stands on it's own against albums twice the length, and please update the production, which wasn't terrible, but it's faults have been noticed.

I loved this album, and I will continue to enjoy it, I just want something with more on it. I won't rate this down for the short but intense and memorable ride, I just hope to have either another track on the new album, or a couple of songs to be a little fuller.

Again this album was all about quality and not quantity, and as such they did really good at what they wrote, never stretching past their means, and never falling short of good rhythm and technique.
