Vegan. Organic. Kosher. High quality. Great side or with rice or on crackers or with chips, or "on toast" as our friends across the pond love 'em. Nice tomato sauce with hint of onion. The touch of sweetness is also just right. Another vegan wonder from Amy's kitchen! 420 kcal and 21g protein per can. Ingredients label explicitly states "(Vegan)" even though product name only states "Vegetarian." This review is out there for those for whom this makes a difference. I ordered these as soon as I saw that Amazon had discounted their normally-out-of-reach price a bit. Am I ever glad I did! They are delicious, with just the right amount of green chile taste. They're very, very spreadable. In fact, that is part of why I'm not giving them 5 stars. I'd like them to be a bit chunkier. But if you like yours to be spreadable, then you will love these. They are not overly salty, look exactly like the beans you get in good Mexican restaurants here in San Antonio, and taste wonderful. I'd highly recommend putting them on nachos: spread these on some organic corn chips, top with your fave cheese (even not-cheese cheese), and bake the whole thing in an actual oven or toaster oven for a tiny while, just long enough for the cheese to melt, then pull the nachos out, top them with pico de gallo or sour cream or both, and enjoy!

Buy these; you won't be sorry!

I had always used another brand of canned refried beans and switched to Amy's Organic because they were about the same price as my old brand, and I've come to prefer organic products when I can get them. I will not go back to my old brand. These refried beans taste like the pinto beans they are made with, and they have just enough onions, garlic, and other spices to complement the beans rather than overpower the flavor of the beans. As well, they don't seem as "heavy" as other beans that I've eaten. I will definitely buy these beans again.

I was disappointed, though, that most of the cans were dented and damaged. This doesn't seem to have affected the quality of the product, but it does seem odd that so many damaged cans were sent in one order. It seems to me that the shipper may be at fault here and may be sending the dented cans because it might be easier to cast them off on the internet-order crowd--they aren't as likely to return them as a shopper in a store would be not to buy them without a discount.

It almost seems silly to me to write a review on refried beans, but having recently started on the "4 Hour Body" slow-carb diet we are eating a lot of them. My wife has always favored mexican food, and the typical store-brand or name-brand refried beans smelled and tasted, well, not good. I would usually comment while preparing dinner that they looked exactly how I remembered canned dog food looked when I was feeding my dog as a kid, and smelled the same as well. So that's how we found Amy's, and I have to say they're the first refried beans that I actually enjoy eating. However in the retail stores they are around $3.20/can where I live with a slight discount for a case. I ordered these online and signed up for the monthly autoship since we eat them several times a week now, and the cost was around $27/case of 12, free shipping. I've tried a few other organic brands but to me Amy's still wins. Note that the low-sodium version has half the sodium as the regular version, and this seems to hold true for all of their low-sodium canned beans. The Organic black beans are also very good, better in fact to my palate.

The reason for only awarding four stars to this product is not because of the quality of the product. Amy's products are always excellent products, and I have purchased Amy's for many years. However, the packing is a major problem. These six cans were wrapped only in a plastic overwrap and packed in a huge box (with much space remaining) together with a couple of heavy boxes which shifted position and dented these cans causing the pop-up top on one can to break, therefore beans were spread all over the rest of the cans (yuck). This is due to Amazon's poor packing practices. Fortunately, they have refunded my money. I only hope they will improve their packing protocols; this kind of thing has happened to me before. They seem to delight in packing smaller, lighter items with large heavy ones in great big boxes with a minimum of packing material to fill the void. As a result, Amazon must have to refund quite a bit of money and/or products - which amounts to a great waste of customer time.

This is THE BEST refried beans on the market today. Don't let the "with green chiles" part scare you. They are not hot or spicy, the chiles impart a subtle flavor. The beans are smooth and creamy, not pasty or gritty like the other grocery store brands. Even my 5 and 2 year olds love the quesadillas and burritos and nachos we make with Amy's refried beans.

And along with delicious flavor, you get Amy's commitment to organic and vegan products. No GMO's and no MSG. You wont feel guilty about feeding your family anything from Amy's.

I did find Amazon's price to still be cheaper than my local natural grocery store. Buy a can from your grocer to try it before you order a case.

Side note: Amazon is not packaging these right, these come in a shrink-wrapped cardboard tray of 12 cans. Amazon simply throws this case into a larger box only with 2 or 3 air pillows as padding! On my first shipment 8 cans were dented! Amazon quickly shipped me out another case, but this time only 4 were dented.

Amazon figure out some better packaging for your canned goods!!!
