It's confusing how many brackets are in each package. Each order comes with TWO brackets, enough for a single sawhorse. Just FYI.

These were my third try at sawhorse brackets. The first pair were the hinged metal sleeves bought at Lowe's but pretty common. I cut everything to size and the 2x4 was the same dimensions as the "outside" dimensions of the sleeve. The designer failed to account for the thickness of the metal. Not wanting to try to cut a 1/32" deep tenon on the end of a 2x4, these went back. I went for the Blitz Usa Pros ( a bit expensive but they looked solid). The listing said they were in stock; when I got to the cart I learned otherwise.

I had passed on the Fulton #8909s both times because, it just seemed too simple to be strong and stable. I was wrong. The assembly was easy...a snug fit, best set with a rubber hammer. Since I already had the wood cut I put the first one together and decided I would prefer to turn a machine nut with a wrench and ditched the wingnut. I also decided to go with the very simple instructions that suggested that a 20º angle on the top of the legs would perform better. I cut, bolted it all together and cranked it down with a wrench.

I really can't believe the results. The brackets look so insubstantial in the picture and out of the box. The results are amazing for such a simple design. I made my saw horses a bit taller and longer than normal to keep my canoe off the ground. Even with the extra leverage, there is no side-to-side wobble or flexing.

Simple, inexpensive, good quality materials and construction, and very effective; I wish everything I buy would prove to be so much more than I expect...a pleasant surprise.

I recently bought and constructed two 8959 Fulton Sawhorse Bracket kits and would like to share a few comments and suggestions:

First Observations - Each kit contained two plastic brackets with wedges that lock the legs in place, two assembly bolts and two wingnuts. Although assembly is pretty obvious, there were no instructions included even though the box indicated that instructions were included. The picture on the box, however, pretty well illustrates the assembly procedure.

Legs should be made from 2x4 stock (use white wood for lightest weight). Leg length is at your discretion, but I made mine 31 7/8" long. This gives good height to the sawhorse (I am 6'2")and you can cut three of these legs from a standard 2x4x8. The top beam can be either 2x4 or 2x6 (I used 2x4's about 3' in length) but you can make it any length you may choose. I drilled a 5/16" bolt hole near each end of the top beam and also counterbored those holes with a 3/4 inch spade bit to about a 1/2 to 3/4" depth. This keeps the bolt head recessed out of harms way and also provides for a completely flat top surface.

I also placed a 5/16" "large diameter" flat washer directly against the plastic wedge followed by a 5/16" lock washer and finally by the wingnut that is supplied. This will provide a solid assembly and minimize the chances for the leg joints to loosen in service and potentially collapse the sawhorse as a result.

One additional plus for this sawhorse is that it can be quickly assembled on an "as needed" basis and it is also just as quickly and easily disassembled for compact storage between jobs.

In summary, this will provide a very good sawhorse that should give very acceptable long term service to the "typical woodworker". However, if you are looking for a "construction grade" or a really "heavy duty" sawhorse, this is probably not the best choice.

You get TWO pieces of hardware in each box, enough for one saw horse. If you need one sawhorse, order one of these. If you need two saw horses, order two of these.

These sawhorse brackets make it quick and easy to make your horses.

Cut your top piece to the width of your table. You can use a 2x4 or a 2x6. Drill a hole in each end of the top piece to attach it to the hardware.

For the legs, cut (4) 2x4s. There's a paper jig in case you want to cut them on a beveled angle for a more stable horse.

Slip the legs into the hardware, then tighten down the wing nut on the bolt. A few cuts, two holes, and some twisting. Pretty easy.

The only criticism I have of this is the actual hardware they give you to tighten down the apparatus. If you use the wing nut, you will never get a stable saw horse. Even if you have hands of steel and are able to get it wrench tight by turning the wing nut, it will open on its own eventually and your horse can wobble or just fall apart.

I solved this by exchanging the wing nut for a locking washer and nut and used a deep socket ratchet to tighten it. (You could use a wrench, but there's not a lot of room to turn it because of the positioning of the legs, and you'll need a deep socket because of the length of the bolt). I understand the manufacturer wanted something easy to use and open, but since it doesn't provide the most stable end product, they should at least include something like the option I used for mine, so I took off a star in my review for that.

I had a couple of pairs of these because I didn't like the flimsy metal foldups and thought these looked interesting. After much frustration, I will now be moving to something that I can count on for regular use. I agree that they're simple, but my experience is that I had to constantly tighten the wing nuts on the bottom of these to keep the legs halfway sturdy. Otherwise, the legs kept falling out. Nothing like having a set of these loaded with work pieces and wanting to pick up an end to adjust their position a bit and then oops.... gotta call for help to to pick up a leg that's now on the ground. Also, even though I used standard 2x4s for legs, they fit very sloppy so they always wobbled from side to side. I'm a do-it-yourself type guy with a LOT of tools and I'm unimpressed with these. Of course, they're inexpensive and they'll get you by in a pinch, but I need something that works right every time without giving it constant attention.
