1.0 out of 5 stars Misguided designers employed by Denon?, August 21, 2009
I bought these Denon earbuds thinking, "Denon", they're good right?
Whatever they make is probably good. I was wrong and should have done more research.

Problems with these earbuds:
- Tacky feeling plastic coating: Tackiness isn't a quality you want in earphones because it just drags across your clothing and pulls them out of your ears. The best earphones have smooth, almost hard coating so that it slips across clothing.
- That realy misguided lopsided (asymmetrical?) design where they automatically assume you must want to run the cable across your back. (I've only ever seen one person do this.) Asymmetric earphone wires only serve to pull one side of the earbud out of your ear because all the cable weight is put onto one rather than distributed evenly across two earbuds.
- Symmetric earbuds distribute the cable weight across both earbuds so no one carries all that weight.
- Worst design problem: There's a cable extension on these earbuds. Fine, I'm all about good features but this one falls flat because the cable portion between the earbuds and the extension cable is about 18 inches so unless you're wearing a head-mounted iPod carrier you MUST use the cable extension. That makes the feature useless. Without the cable extension you can't use the headphones, even with an arm iPod carrier.

As for the sound quality, it seems ok. I'm less a judge of that than overall design which, I think falls flat here.

Recommend you hire better product advisors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Average sound, very poor cord design, March 31, 2008
By K. Downey (Redmond, WA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I wanted to replace my Sony mid/low tier headphones, and thought that for $50 these would be a "good enough" option. Boy was I wrong. The sound quality isn't any better than most $20-$30 options, so that was a bummer from the beginning. But the worst part is the chord design. The cord is very short and requires an extension (included). The adapter adds just enough weight that you can feel it drag on your ear... after 30 minutes or so it's extremely annoying. Also, the weight is heavy enough to eventually pull the buds out of your ear (unless they are very snug fitting). Either way, there's no way that these headphones would work at the gym, or running due to the weight. On top of that, the cord itself has a "rubbery" texture which doesn't slide over clothes, skin, etc... instead it "grips" onto whatever it touches. So everytime I turn my head or move quickly, the phones would pull out of my ear (unless I made sure to keep slack between my ears and shoulders, or whatever). It makes me wonder who designed these, and if they bothered to test them in focus groups??? Really lame. They're going back...
