I am an artist, not an engineer; I purchased these leads and a Mars Technico leadholder to try and see how I liked them for my drawings. I have since ordered a few more leadholders and will be purchasing lead from 2H to 4B, and will likely never use another type of pencil again. I simply love them; best of both worlds. I can shade a large area with the side of the lead like a conventional pencil, or I can draw and hatch very precisely. The fact that only the lead requires sharpening frees me from the chore of disposing of pencil shavings, and the little rotary sharpener is great - yep, I got one of those also. Theyre a pleasing weight in the hand, they remain a constant length, the holders that the leads come in are bulletproof; I have absolutely zero complaints. Love them.

I have rated this two stars as I received the wrong item, which I will update once I have the correct item to review.

The seller shipped Mars Lumograph B lead pencils, not 2mm leads as described on this site. I have the lead holder and I wanted to have a darker lead than my existing 2H leads. What I received were not the leads themselves, but the pencil version. I have contacted the seller for a return. I will update this as a resolution unfolds.
***UPDATE***
So the seller returned my email very quickly and shipped me the correct leads, and for their error, they let me keep the pencils! They were very kind, considerate, and very quick to correct any error. I would highly recommend them!

I use this lead with the Mars 780 for marking lines on woodworking projects. Often the precision of a knife line it's required; the combined convenience of not having to sharpen wooden pencils, and the ability to get super fine lines when using the Staedtler sharpener can't be beat.

I also use this lead with all of the Incra rulers to avoid the constant breakage of smaller mechanical pencil leads. Highly recommended!

Fit my 25 year old mechanical pencils from drafting class back in the day just fine. I love them for wood working etc they are easy to sharpen with and they hold a point reasonably well.

This refill will last me another 20 years :)

My 11 year son is totally into drawing - he is loving this lead. He draws animals mainly and the steel pencil he bought from this same brand is crazy amazing. Love that he pays for the best to do his hobby. Nothing like a good support system of materials! Excellent.

Great variety of leads, excellent quality, arrived on time, and even the unique container is phenomenal. It even contains a color-coded button so you can tell which type of lead is in which pencil (a MUST for artists like me that use a wide variety of leads, I have 5 lead holders that I switch between while sketching, each with a different type of lead in it.) This is my second time ordering, great experience both times.

These have a better consistency, sharpen better, and break less than the prismacolor brand leads and I'm definitely sticking with them.

Also, the people complaining about the case are innept. It's easy to use and keeps the leads from breaking.

Quality, comes with a blue cap to slip into top of lead holder to identify as HB lead as opposed to other weights of lead. sharpens well. No breakage yet. I use them for art drawing, and they serve me well. Just need to get some darker leads for better shading shadow areas... But Staedtler all the way for me!
