I was seeking a cheap towel bar for "doggie" towels on our back porch door. The one we had previously was welded together. It was cheap and did not last under its dual duty. We live up in mountains and we get some very strong winds here. The regular handle on the handle/latch assembly of the door is too small to easily grab and hold onto to keep the door from slamming open on the door closer when we get a good "blow" and open the door caught off guard. This towel bar will serve that purpose too - as a grab and hold the door bar, as well as holding "doggie" towels, and it is attractive enough to use in the bathroom or kitchen (unlike our old "not much cheaper" towel bar). Highly recommended budget purchase - that doesn't look cheap. The bar itself is hollow/extruded polished aluminum - nice and smooth on all 4 sides, the end pieces are steel.

NOTE: This towel bar is 3 pieces, the two bar holders that you mount, and the bar. The bar has to be held between the ends when the ends are being mounted. The bar is not a "drop in". (Just in case you were wondering as the photo view is not absolutely clear.) The cardboard the towel bar is mounted on has a template for the position to drill holes so other than being concerned about a level installation, installation is a "piece of cake".

My husband suggested that I edit this review to say, "This is a towel bar". I bought it for a towel bar. It will hold towels of any weight, but he felt it was necessary that I add that the unit should not be considered for a handicapped person's "grab bar". On principle, I agree, but installed with GOOD SCREW ANCHORS and LONGER SCREWS (than come packed with it) - especially installed on a diagonal - I think it could suffice in that situation for a person of normal weight. I believe my husband is being too cautious with his opinion. I would trust it for that purpose if I knew it was well installed and budget limitations were an issue.

Just as expected for something at this price. It doesn't look cheap, but it feels light and hollow. Then again, once installed, as long as it looks nice, who cares about its weight. Installation was very easy with a template provided. And once installed properly, it stays well in place.

I bought this towel rod because we needed a new one in our guest bath. The exsisting one was plastic and yucky looking. I didn't want to spend a lot. I looked around and settled on this one. Not expensive but a nice reasonable price.
It arrived packaged neatly in a plastic wrap with instructions on the cardboard backing. When unpacking, the ends are not attached. Screws and instructions can also be found inside the ends. Putting it together and installing it was a breeze.
This looks really good in our guest bath. It is sturdy and will hold even very heavy towels.

I didn't actually use this for a towel bar. It worked for what I wanted it for which was a hanger rod for my little girl's doll armoire that I made for her.
As a towel bar, I am sure it would be serviceable. It is very lightweight albeit not very attractive in my opinion.
It is however sturdier than it looks because I have my 5, 3 and 2 year old children taking things off and on regularly and it has been holding up well.

Everybody has seen this style of cheap towel bar before. I was not surprised either way with them. The success is highly determined by how well you anchor it to the wall. (Why don't they make them in 32" for standard stud spacing? Probably because people care more about the aesthetics of placement than strength). However, I have found you can find these at local home improvement stores in the $6-$8 range. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a 2-pack of replacement ends and a replacement bar than to buy the whole thing together.
