Terence Boylan's debut album was a masterpiece and one of the very best West Coast, AOR pop/rock albums of all time. My vinyl copy was worn out many moons ago and the replacement has been very well played also. Now I have the CD version (always prefered the vinyl 'sound' personally).

This follow-up was a disappointment at the time although it is clear that half the tracks were recorded during the debut album sessions (check out the session players on 'Ice and Snow', 'Did she finally get to you' and Roll your own' for a start). If the albums at the time were limited in the number of tracks it is clear that some were left over, but money (or lack of it) dictated that the 'Suzy' sessions were completed with a more stripped down sound and fewer players. The song quality of these new tracks was also not of the standard on 'Terence Boylan'. Neverthless this is still a CD worth having in your collection. It was a lot better than most other pop/rock being produced at the time and it is streets ahead of virtually anything produced today (call me old fashioned if you like). Check out 'Dump it in the river' and 'nd of the World'

Whatever happened to Terence Boylan? - the 'new' songs on the compilation CD released before the re-release of the first two albums were well up to standard but nothing further was heard. What a great shame. I guess we should comfort ourselves that a small body of more or less exquisite material is still available and stands up to anything else around.

I've had...oh, SEVERAL copies of this album, but they just kept getting "stole out from under me" by other musicians. And, in all honesty, I have to admit that I'm only peripherally aware of most the other tracks on this album (MIGHTY impressive sidemen though, Steeley Dan for instance...) But that one opening track, "Shake Your Fiorucci" is as great a "disco sucks" comment as was Ian Hunter/Ellen Foley's "We Gotta Get Out Of Here." To wit, the chorus "...Shake your Fiorucci/Mixin' ludes & tookski/I know what you came here for, I can't use it/I love you, honey, but I just can't swindle this music." He says that, because after the first verse, the band plays the Stones' "Bitch," and after the second, Eric's "Layla," almost note-for-note perfectly. Ah, but next, Terence delivers the VERY BEST LINE in ALL of "eighties' music" (with but one exception, Geo Clinton's immortal "Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yay"), when he almost-chants the incredible "Vitamin Q/Vitamin C/What are we all gonna grow up to be?/Get down." That one song is a stone GEM, (I'm gonna SAY this!) along the lines of "Gimme Shelter," "In My Life," "Whiter Shade Of Pale," "Tangled Up In Blue," "Charity Ball," or even "White Room." Don't believe me? Well, for once, I'm NOT writing a "negative review," am I? - and, look, just GET "Suzy" and let me know your reaction to "Fiorucci." You'll ("eighties," now) "fer sure" DIG what goes ON there...

I understand the original LP was made up from tracks of 2 albums, which explains the big difference between side one and side two (the first and second half of the CD.)

It's side two that's a must-have. Smooth, intelligent, jazzy, can't-stop-listening-to-it kind of music.

Side one tries maybe for a hit, but I think he fails. Oh, there's maybe one or two that's somewhat acceptable, but nothing like side two... (the last half of the CD).

Now granted, I'm a fan of West Coast 70s music and I absolutely loved his self-titled album (also now on CD). Since you can't buy half a CD, (or download by song), buy this whole CD. Plenty to be happy with.
