In another review, I panned a less expensive device because it was "a piece of junk". I'm an experienced competitive cyclist, and own and use many different stationary trainers. My favorite is the Kurt Kinetic. But I'm traveling and unable to bring my KK with me. I purchased this from Amazon because it was relatively inexpensive, light weight, portable, and made by the same company that makes the more upscale Cycleops trainers. While magnetic resistance units are lighter weight and more portable, they lack the real road feel and high resistance of a good "fluid" resistance trainer. On the other hand, if all you are looking for is a good indoor workout, you can, at the highest resistance setting and with a high enough gear, easily hit your max. heart rate. If you are a serious athlete and looking to invest in something for the long haul, then go upscale to a Cycleops or Kurt Kinetic fluid unit. If you are on a budget, or not so serious the Graber Mag will get the job done and save you a few hundred dollars.

I've had this trainer for a few months and thus far it has held up very well. I did my research when it came to bike trainers. I didn't have a lot of money to spend on one but I wanted something that would get the job done and be as noise free as possible. Unfortunately I did believe the hype about the more money you pay, the quieter the trainer would be (Kinetic), luckily I decided to take a chance and purchase this trainer based on its mostly positive reviews. I'm glad I did.

I didn't know that this trainer, like most, is made for a quick release rear axle. I had just bought a cheap bike that had your standard fixed rear axle. I was determined to figure out how I could use this trainer without spending major money and labor on converting my rear axle into a quick release. The solution was simple; add an extra nut to the left axle screw so it would fit into the metal cylinder intake on the trainer (not sure of the correct name). I purchased a cheap nut from the hardware store that was as close in size to the axle nuts that were already on my bike and worked it onto my axle screw a few times to cut the tread on the new nut better. I snugly tightened the extra nut next to the existing axle nut. There was one more problem though, I had a rear kick stand which didn't allow for my bike to fit on the trainer. I simply took it off, haha. That did it and I was able to use the trainer!

I've read some negative reviews about the noise the Graber Mag Trainer makes. Well like an idiot I believed the loud vacuum noise produced when peddling was because of the trainer. I recently discovered it was because of the tread on my road tire. No tread, no noise. I purchased a trainer specific tire and the results are amazing. At least 90% percent of the noise I experienced is now gone.

I think the comment about the lack of resistance modification means someone didnt read the manual well enough. If your tire isnt flush against the drum the resistance knob doesnt do anything.
This is a solid trainer for those who arent looking for any bells or whistles or dont want to commit hundreds of dollars to a trainer.
Im using it for Triathlon training, it fits well in our tiny 1 bedroom.

Much like you I saw this trainer and the overall positive reviews and thought it would fit my needs of doing some indoor training during bad weather. I've had this trainer a few months now and I am extremely disappointed. I decided to buy a trainer specific tire to get more longevity out of my indoor sessions. Sadly, this truly exposed the cheap material and build quality that is existent with this trainer. The magnetic resistance part that pushes against the rear tire, has worn down after 5 minutes of use with this tire! In other words, that plastic part couldn't hold up at all and there are now lines worn into the plastic resistance wheel! This results in the trainer being next to useless as it continues to wear down regardless of how precise I try and adjust it so that it is barely contacting the tire. Do not waste your time or money with this thing as it has now been relegated to a $100+ piece of garbage sitting in my basement. Extremely disappointed. Buyer beware. Please see my photo.

I simply bought to take my Trek indoors for the winter, and continue some activity. Very easy to set up--maybe 5 minutes--and about 2 if you want to take off and ride outside--very convenient.

And quite sturdy, I'm 200lbs and 6-2. Used for first time today--enjoyable ride. Suggestion I read here which was helpful---buy the front tire stand--it's like 8 bucks--bought Sunlite. Balances out and adds stability.

BTW, I think the "noisy" that you read on some reviews has to do with the type of tires; mine are normal, not real nubby, mountain tires---and it's not that noisy at all. Enjoy.

i recieved the mag trainer about a month ago, the set up took 5 minutes , and i have a specialized road bike that i use on it. so far so good the adjustments
for tension are good , but i happened to strip a bolt on the tensioner, called the vendor to get replacement j-bolt. while they were tough to work with i got amazon to pay for the bad bolt all should go well now . all in all great value for price.
