I have back issues & this thing helps a lot. Would have given it 5 stars if it stayed warm just a bit longer. But 2 minutes in the microwave & you are good to go again. So an easy recommendation to anyone who needs to apply heat to their back or anywhere else. NOTE: When they say don't exceed 2 minutes, they mean it. We accidentally went 3 minutes & it burned holes in the cover hence we had to buy a new one. So beware...

I love this wrap mostly for the elastic belt. I use it on my low back and sometimes my neck. I love that I can wrap it tight on my low back and wear it while working. Actually helps prevent a backache this way by keeping those muscles limber. I have learned to be extra careful when microwaving it. Not all microwaves heat evenly so I've burned some of the first ones I owned. Now I know to nuke for 1.5 minutes, rock the rice up and down for 15 seconds, then do another 30 seconds. Usually 2 mins is all you can do. But when you have it in a powerful microwave and have it kinda folded, the heat builds up so much it burns the other parts of itself that's touching. Still works fine just starts looking haggard.

I have a very old one that I have used for years not only for my back, but also shoulders and knees. I needed a newer one that looked cleaner! The new one has an adjustable elasticized strap to go around your waist when using it on your lower back. The old one wasn't elasticized. I even wear it while house cleaning and it serves as a good back support as well. Multiple uses. I couldn't live without it since I have rheumatoid arthritis.

I use mine three or four times a day and again at night - it is helpful in soothing a chronic back pain caused by spondelolesthesis (sp?). In addition I have been able to tell others about it and often use it as a reasonably priced and practical gift.

I do not know what has changed in Carex items, but OMG please change it back. These back wraps smell like bad seaweed. Can't even use them. I purchased one, and after gagging from the smell, I emailed the Carex company directly. They promptly got back to me, and even sent me a replacement free of charge. Unfortunately, it smells just as bad. I have another Bed Buddy product, the original cold/hot pack (long and white with two blue ropes on each end) and that smells yummy, like rice almost. But these back ones are not the same materiel inside or out. Horrible.

PRO: This was recommended by our Physical Therapist. We were able to find it quickly on Amazon while still in the PT office, and confirm with the Therapist that it was the correct item based on the pics posted on the Amazon listing. It arrived quickly using Amazon Prime, and we confirmed it helped as recommended.

CON: It takes a little trial and error to figure out how the strap fastens. The (white) strap contains Velcro, which sticks to the (blue) covering of the wrap. This is a bit unlike other Velcro fastenings we've used in the past. Also, attempting to use a health debit card as a payment for this item was not accepted during the Amazon checkout process. I assume this fault lies with my health provider, not Amazon. However, when a medical item is specifically recommended and confirmed before ordering, and performs as it should upon arrival, I would have hoped a prepaid medical debit card could have been used to pay for it.
