I built a new shower and left this detail to be taken care of towards the end of the job. I figured I would stub out a chromed nipple and some trim. Further along, I thought there might be an actual fitting for this task, and here it is!

In plumbing fixtures, you pay for quality. This is a high visibility part and if I went cheapo on it, I'd have to stand there every time I took a shower and be reminded I went cheap instead of first-class. I'm so glad I purchased this part. Everyone who has looked at my work seems to focus on this one part and remark how well finished the shower looks.

The part itself is solid brass with a chrome finish. It may look in the picture like it is a fitting with a chrome cover, but it is one solid brass casting. It feels heavy for it's size, which is usually a good thing in plumbing. Yeah, you are going to pay a little extra for this gem, but it's worth the money.

My only gripe is that this piece should come with the handheld showerhead that its used for. But you get what you pay for. Moen makes some quality bath hardware and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product and other Moen products to a friend.

Despite the fact that Moen should have included this with the BB shower head and hose, the product appears solid, nice finish and all metal (not the black plastic pictured) However, Moen DID NOT include a seal gasket for the product to fit the wall seam. "Not good", says my plumber. "Otherwise water slips behind it in to your wall." GREAT! Not. Looking on the internet it is clear that there is a history of others not finding a gasket included as well. I also did not find a gasket for this unit on the internet. My plumber used a bead of silicone around the edge (except for the very bottom which allows water to drip down and out) and that did the job. For those looking to pre-order like I did for your plumber, BEWARE THE LENGTH OF THE NIPPLE COMING OUT OF THE WALL TO ATTACH THE DROP EL. IT HAS TO BE CUT TO JUST THE RIGHT LENGTH or the drop el does not sit flush with your tile. Overall, pretty happy with this part but found Moen to be cheap on not including some sort of sealing gasket.

WHEN YOU ARE PLUMING IN THIS ELL YOU HAVE TO BE RIGHT ON THE MONEY AS FAR AS ATTACHING THE ELL TO THE FINISHED WALL. THE COVER IS MOUNTED ON WITH 2 SCREWS FROM THE BACK SIDE, SO YOU HAVE NO WAY ACCESS TO THEM TO DO ANY ADJUSTMENTS AT ALL. WHEN YOU ARE ATTACHING THE ELL ALL YOU CAN DO IS SCREW THE ELL ON. IF THE PLUMBING IS TO FAR IN YOU CAN NOT TIGHTEN IT PROPERLY. IF THE PLUMBING IS TO FAR OUT, THEN YOU HAVE A GAP BETWEEN THE WALL & THE ELL. VERY POOR DESIGN.

I had to replace both the hose from the Moan hand shower head and this right after installation- both were leaking and water was shooting straight out. It needed to be replaced immediately and no time for a return and replacement. Huge waste of money.

This is a functional piece that directs the hose down instead of out from the wall it looks nice and is solid. One of the little details that finishes a bath and makes it function correctly. You need it you buy it good deal. All the bath hardware and fixtures I have purchased on Amazon after shopping around alot were the best prices and with the best return and customer satisfaction no questions asked if need to return.

My plumber had the copper pipe fitting inside the wall off slightly on it's vertical positon. When the Ell was screwed in, it does not lay flat to the wall. It seems a cover plate like for the valve handle would provide a better finish and some margin for error. Lousy design since it gives zero adjustment capability.
