I own two of these, and they are the best that I've found for muting an xlr mic in a live setting. When your foot is resting on it, the mic is muted. When your foot is off, the mic is live. It's a device for a pretty specific use. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the case itself, while very sturdy and heavy duty, makes an audible "click" when you activate it. It seems the click is by design. The click is pretty quiet, but if you ever plan to hand operate this within audible range of other live mics, you'll hear it. However, the device is still of high enough quality that I bought a second one. Rolls is a great brand, and this mute pedal lives up to their high standards.

Cheap and cuts down on post production time. <--- I love both of those things :)

I know some people put the switch by their foot but I prefer it on my desk near me so I can quickly push it down by hand. It just helps to see it.

I have been functioning without a off switch on my headset mic for a very long time. I finally came to my senses and bought this mute which works flawlessly and I'm very pleased. I patched it in between my TC Harmony G XT and the P.A. and it mutes both me and the guitar.

This is the cheapest, highest quality option out there for muting but I wish it had another button that served as more of an on/off mute. In addition, I wish the button was more sensitive. This is really well built and I'd suggest buying one despite the shortcomings I mentioned because what is promised is delivered. If I was operating this with my foot instead of my hand I'm sure I wouldn't notice the amount of pressure needed to activate the mute.

This solved a major problem for a podcast host who was coughing a lot. She's become quite adept at hitting the generously-sized button with her foot when she needs, and the audience is hardly aware of the interruption. Build quality is very good, the Rolls can be used on floor or desk, and it works well with dynamic or condenser mics with phantom power (she uses the latter.) There is a barely audible *click* in the mic audio, and the unit is mechanically near silent. I rate this an excellent product for the money.

This pedal is not a true mute. It simply cuts off about 40 db from the recording. Loud coughing can still be heard (though quietly). I tend to pair this mute pedal with a noise gate while streaming audio.
