If you want a blender bristling with buttons, knobs, and switches, then this isn’t for you. This machine is designed to blend things with the digital precision of an on-off switch and little more. When did we decide that a blender needed more keys than a Wurlitzer organ, and more buttons than an Apollo space capsule? One had the option to: puree, crumb, aerate, grind, stir, whip, coarse chop, beat, liquefy, grate, mix, shake, and blend, with an on/off switch…. AND a dial timer. Sure, all that’s great for the recipe which calls for one to crumb an ingredient for 17 seconds; I’ve simply NEVER seen such an instruction which would justify such a complex piece of home machinery.

So what’s included with the Waring BB 190? The base unit (motor housing) has an all metal case and base, rather than what I had anticipated as a thin sheet of steel covering a plastic frame. The sticker indicates this unit is assembled in the USA. So far, so good. There are four rubber isolated feet and the drive cog has six teeth, and appears to be made of some hard rubber composite. The face contains the controls and includes two toggle switches and NOTHING. That’s it. One of the switches is for pulse mode and is spring loaded to return to the off position. The other switch is three position with off on the bottom (where god intended it to be), along with LO and HI as you pass the detents upward. You do have to actively push the switch to off, rather than have some option which does that for you. Toggle switches are widely used in commercial applications due to their robust design and long track record of reliability. The base is impressive in simplicity and design beauty.Read more ›

SImple, powerful and makes the Breville Hemishpere blenders look like toys! I've used a lot of blenders in my day and did a TON of research and finally landed on this one. No silly soft start electronic motor speed control, just simple power and switches that will last for years. The base has suction cups on the feet, but it still slides unless you push down and then they grab, but not too much, you can easily get it to release. Nicely done! The jar is a good size. the blade assembly appears to be stainless steel, removable and easy to clean. It doesn't leak like the Kitchenaid KSB560 it replaced, and if it did would an easy cheap fix. It is a little on the loud side, but not too bad and no louder that the Kitchenaid. The motor is fast and powerful and it churns contents in the jar well so that every thing mixes together. I make protein smoothies mostly with lots of frozen fruit and it doesn't strain one bit. It's sized just right to slide under my kitchen cabinet with 17" of clearance, unlike the Ninja I had. My only con and the ONLY reason I didn't give it five full stars is due to ridiculously over-engineered jar lid chute. It hinges, or at least it's supposed to. Why, oh why did Waring not just stick to a simple functional round twist-lock opening like so many of it's other models? It is cumbersome to operate, difficult to remove and use as a measuring cup even though it's marked for such use. The complicated molding of the jar top designed to hold and "hinge" the clear opening chute just creates nooks and crannies that take more time to be cleaned. Come on Waring! This thing is a Bar Blender and I'm sure a Bar Tender wants to spend as little time, as do I, cleaning this thing up! I am now desperately searching for a simple replacement top with a simple round opening to replace this one, which would make this thing perfect!

The BB190 is a powerful blender that easily crushes ice in a few seconds. This is the stainless steel version of the BB180---which comes with a black, plastic blender base. Both models take up comparatively little footprint space on the countertop. If you want a powerful commercial blender at a great price, get the BB180 with black plastic housing. If you want a nice-looking blender with a stainless steel base, then get the BB190. Highly recommended.

Based on the reviews, specifications, and the answers fellow customers posted to my question, I finally ordered this Blender to make smoothies. And I did hell lot of research with a budget of $50-$500, checked out in detail every major brand from Kitchenaid (nice looking leaking broken machines), Vitamix (there's a video review where a $450 blender couldn't crush ice cubes), besides other brands. Oster is a piece of crap from China, I unknowingly brought an Oster Hand blender last year and had to throw it away in the trash so it was just out of question. This one has a powerful motor, solid built, polycarbonate jar, metal drive blades, user replaceable parts which are easily available.
In spite of my Amazon Prime membership, this was delivered to me in 5 days, but unlike many amazon reviewers, I'm not going to take a star off the product for amazon delivery.
The built is solid, feels quite heavy, jar is high quality, blades are sharp and ruthless. The black portion on the bottom of the jar unscrews revealing the blades for easy washing if you need to, and a rubber washer which is easily replaceable in future. (The parts available cheaply). Make sure you put the seal in place before putting the blades back into the jar and secure it real tight using the outer gear surrounding the drive gear, otherwise you will be running back here writing a review about a leaky jar. It does not leak, however after washing just flip it upside down once to drain the water from the sides of the jar where that black portion at the bottom of the jar is fixed.
The unit is very noisy, loud I would say but that doesn't bother me if it does the job. There is a slight motor smell while using it but that doesn't bother me either, its not uncommon in American/chinese products.Read more ›
