Corresponded with the great folks at Dr. Brown's. Item #920 is NOT BPA free. This is their older polycarbonate model. The #925 is the new BPA free one. Dr. Brown's Formula Mixing Pitcher

Works beautifully, but hard to sterilize

This mixer works well to thoroughly mix powdered formula, without clumps or bubbles. It even breaks up a DHA additive we use that even the hardest shaking in a bottle won't completely dissolve. The range-of-motion limiter on the mixer stem is useless, as any moderate contact with the lid pushes it out of position - but this is not really and issue, because it's easy enough to control how high you lift the handle while mixing. Tip: keep the mixing blades well below the surface of the liquid, or they will introduce as much air (bubbles) as shaking does. Caution: I tried to sterilize the jug by microwaving with several ounces of water, and the mixer stem melted. Looks like the only way to sterilize is to boil.

Doesn't mix Nutramigen very well.

The concept of this pitcher is to keep the mixing blades below the surface of the liquid to keep air to a minimum. Unfortunately, lots of formulas float and need a lot of agitation to mix properly. For these formulas, this pitcher is useless.

Additionally, the lid goes on secure but is not liquid tight. Tip it or shake it and you'll have a mess.

One last item - in order to adjust the height of the mixing blade you have to take the lid off and push a rubber grommet up/down the shaft. This isn't easy and of course it's wet with formula. This seems like a messy or unsanitary way to have to do every time you make and pour a bottle.

Instead we found a liquid tight pitcher. Shake the heck out of it to mix, then a few hours later the bubbles have settled. If you can plan more than a bottle ahead, this might work out better for you, too.

I am no longer a slave to mixing formula bottles

This is fantastic; I am no longer a slave to mixing formula bottles. I would definitely recommend getting two of these. I just stick the dirty one in the dishwasher and then I have another to use while that is getting washed.

I couldn't find a clear recommendation for making a large amount of formula at once (I saw a wide variety of suggestions), but I've been using 28 ounces of water with one cup of formula. That's what we came up with when we measured out a bunch of little scoops of formula into a measuring cup (that is, there were 14 scoops of formula in one cup). We use Enfamil Infant. My baby seems to be doing just fine with this proportion of water to formula, but I would still recommend measuring it out for yourself (who knows, maybe our measuring cup is weird).

As for quality, I've had these for three months and the parts are getting slightly warped, but the pitchers are still definitely usable. I might replace them in a few months. But for the cost of these compared with how often we use them and how convenient they are, I think this product is a great deal.

The pitcher also definitely eliminated bubbles and clumps in the mixed formula.

The only issue with premixing formula like this is that you have to refrigerate it, but we just have a bowl of water sitting out that we stick in the microwave (then we put the bottle with the cold formula in the bowl to warm up), so heating up the bottles isn't a big deal.

Great Buy

This is a great for mixing formula. We found it best to put a little water in the bottom first and then add the powdered formula so it wouldn't stick to the bottom of the pitcher. Love this product and actually bought one as a shower gift for a friend.

Mixed formula is good for 24 hrs after being made

I could not live without this This has been a life and sanity saver. Mixed formula is good for 24 hrs after being made, I calculate how much my little guy eats in a 24 hr period and make roughly that (usually 24-32 ox) i mix it up the night before, slap a sticker on it with time made and i can easily make up bottles until the formula has expired. It walso is great at mixing and I never have any clumps in my formula at all, cleaning it is a breeze and it takes less than 1 min to mix the powder and water

Saves a lot of time!

This mixing pitcher has saved me a lot of time by letting me make all the bottles for the day at one time. It mixes quickly and usually without any clumping. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because occasionally it leaks from the top while you are mixing it (if it is full). Not a big deal for me but it's an inconvenience to get your hand wet/sticky while mixing. Still a great product!
