First let me say the set is great but it is not complete and unedited. The only reason to watch Game 5 was the fight in which
Ralph Sampson and Jerry Sichting went at it. Unfortuantley it has been
edited out. I know the NBA doesn't want to promote violence but the
fight was a major part of an otherwise unexciting series. It should
have been included. Otherwise the set is great.

How can they possibly say that this is the complete series as broadcast in its entirety? Total garbage that they edited out the fight. It happened NBA so get over it. Absolutely ridiculous.

Presentation of the product: Each game is on one disc, all inside a well presented multidisc case. I would rather have each game on a single disc slim case but this format really saves space on your library.

Game 1: Complete game. Running time: 96 minutes. No pregame or postgame shows. No extras. Good image quality but a bit pixelated (8/10) watching it on a 40" LED TV. The Celtics strike first but the highlight of the game is Akeem Olajuwon exploding for 25 first half points.

Game 2: Complete game with some minor shortcuts (for example, the time between a foul and the free throws is cut off a number of times). Running time: 84 minutes. No pregame or postgame shows. No extras. Image quality remains the same as Game 1, but this one has some audio issues in the 2nd quarter when many times the voice of the commentators turns too low. The day before this contest Larry Bird received his third consecutive MVP trophy and he really showed why in this one, scoring 31 points on 12 of 19 shooting.

Game 3: Complete game. Running time: 112 minutes. 5 minutes of pregame, no postgame. No extras. Image quality a bit worse (7/10), although they have reconstructed the early minutes of the 4th quarter that weren't show originally by CBS because of technical problems. Houston gets back into the series behind a 24 point - 22 rebound effort by Ralph Sampson.

Game 4: Complete game. Running time: 102 minutes. 7 minutes of pregame, 3 minutes of postgame. No extras. Very good image quality (9/10). Keep in mind that this is 1986, so no 16:9 nor HD (don't expect for example to watch cleanly the names on the player's jerseys). NBA Sixth Man of the year Bill Walton hit all five of his shot attempts, the last one to give Boston a decisive lead after the two minute mark.

I am not really a fan of the Houston Rockets or the Boston Celtics but I do enjoy watching the 80's NBA so it was fun to watch this Finals series from 1986 between the Rockets and Celtics. Back then there were a lot less technical fouls being called and players were allowed play. Another thing I noticed was that players from opposing teams didn't mind helping each other up off the floor(don't see much of that today).

This set contains all six games each on its own disc. The whole set is contained in one larger size DVD case(which I like as opposed to having a DVD case for each disc which seems excessive) and each disc is easily accessible. The one big flaw for this set of course is that the fight scene is cut out from game 5. Other than that this is a great set for fans of 80's style basketball.

I am conflicted because it is great that this footage is even around to watch. The Bird Celtics always have been my favorite team, and with the addition of Bill Walton for this one year, it is possible that this was the best team ever, certainly at least in the discussion.
However, for a DVD the video quality is pretty poor. There are horizontal scan lines that move up the picture pretty much all the time, as if it was recorded from someone's antenna or something. It seems as if the WWF tape library is in better shape than the NBA's.
As someone else noted, the fight in game 5 was unceremoniously cut out of the DVD. Give me a break, people buying this DVD are adults not kids. It's ridiculous.
The bonus features are also predictably lacking. The crummy year in review is not exactly memorable. Would it have been so hard to interview some of the players, especially those like Bird, Ainge, McHale who are still active in the league, as well as everyone's favorite analyst, Bill Walton?
Still this is a great capsule of a bygone era. The beauty of the Celtics was that anyone of the starters could be the star of any given game. And perhaps the best passing team I've ever seen. With the exception of McHale (aka the Black Hole as noted by Tommy Heinsohn), they were all extremely unselfish players on both ends. No disrespect to Kevin, he was put there to post up and shoot the ball!

7 Discs. The main disc is the recap of the Celtics 85-86 season, playoffs and championship run. The other 6 discs each contain 1 game from the Rockets vs. Celtics 1986 NBA Finals. If you can't get enough of Bird/McHale/Parish/DJ/Danny/Walton/Sichting or mid 80's NBA - some of the best years of the league - than this is a perfect addition to your collection.
