I am in an aquarium society and have 15 tanks up and running, all using various types of filters and hoses. I am using this ribbed hose for my custom 100 gallon tank, and have been for about 7 years. I will likely use this ribbed hose on the new 180 gallon system I am currently working on. The hose is used to interconnect everything in the water system; the intake, filter-in, filter-out, UV-sterilizer in and out, and the line to the return diversion fitting (e.g. the spray bar). The tubing is an excellent choice for larger tanks as it maintains its shape and maximizes water flow.

Pros:
- The hose does not kink and keeps its shape to maximize water flow
- It is very easy to connect to barbed fittings of all types
- Works on fittings that have an integrated screw-down-cap type clamp
- Creates a very clean looking installation when the external elbow and 180 degree bend clamps are used
- Is much less stiff than typical aquarium poly-hose
- Does not seem to get brittle or stiff over time like poly-hose

Cons:
- If the hose needs to be cut to size a new rubber end has to be attached (you can't reuse the end from the cut end and new ends are sold seperately)
- The new rubber ends must be glued to the ribbed hose, despite what any instructions might say (use Loctite Ultra Stick and Seal)
- The hose ends will eventually expand and become loose enough to pop off of the barbed fitting unless a clamp is used (water, water everywhere!!)
- And the biggest downside to this product - As your filter runs and the flow rate gets lower, debris gets trapped in the ribs on the inside of the tube. After the filter is cleaned and a more powerful stream is produced, large amounts of the trapped material can be ejected into the tank.Read more ›

This gets a 3 star because it does not come with extra rubber ends! If you intend to cut this you need to order the rubber ends (A20228) also making this very expensive to replace!

Good hose in a size that you cant buy at any local Menards ect, would rather have a bendable flat hose that doesnt collect shrimp ect and blow back out when you turn on your filter, check out Ebay for better pricing..........

Works well with the fx5. kind of bummed I had to spend 20 dollars to buy it again since the old ones were too short for my new tank. Way too expensive for what they are. I know i could have made my own, but there are no hardware stores near me that carry the correct materials in the size i need them. Also, shipping to where i live cost an arm and a leg.
