I experimented with this and another product as well as just plain liquid fabric starch. The cheap half gallon of starch was preferred in ease of use, no toxicity (no need to wear gloves-safe f or kids) and low cost. The only difference seemed to be the addition of white glue in the stiffener products which can be detected by smell which of course could be added to the plain starch. The remaining test to be done is how it holds up in high humidity and moisture which has not been tested yet. So far I was not impressed especially since I was working on multiple projects and cost was a major consideration.

I made a canvas messenger bag but it seemed rather limp, so I went looking for a fabric stiffener to give it some body. The Stiffy brand by Plaid is outstanding, not just white glue in a different bottle. I brushed the product on with a cheap paintbrush, and even a thin coat gave the bag just the right amount of body so it doesn't sag. Clean up with soap and water was very easy, too. I plan to use this on several canvas bags that I've washed so that they look great again. Highly recommended.

This fabric stiffener is perfect, dries to exactly the right hardness, allowing final painting and accessory gluing for your finished product. My wife has made both a Christmas choir set and Santa Clauses starting with empty wine and beer bottles. When molding the treated fabric around the frame, this product makes a very pliable medium. Exquisite results for creative people!

It's stiffy stuff. It makes fabric stiff. I haven't used this one yet, but the old bottle I had I used it on an angel's skirt so it would be flared out. It worked and has held up for years.
