For anyone who is wondering how to install the "latch" side of the door stop: the baseplate unscrews from the cover, allowing you to secure the baseplate to the wall and then screw the cover back on. I found that using a pair of needlenose pliers in the two screw holes worked great (I wasn't able to get it unscrewed with just my fingers).

I haven't installed the latch yet, but it feels solid and the magnet seems like it'll be plenty strong. I'll update my rating if it doesn't perform as well as expected but I don't anticipate having any problems with it.

Updated: This doorstop is working perfectly for our application. It keeps the door open even when we have a strong crossbreeze going in the house, but isn't hard to close when needed.

Who doesn't have a door that refuses to stay open no matter what, being because of the wind or any other mysterious issues? The door at my apartment's laundry room was a case of the latest, no mater what I did to the hinges or my countless efforts to align it the door kept slowly closing, making it hard to work getting in an out of the room constantly without at some point hitting the door with your face or body . I tried the conventional door stoppers and not only I found them bothersome to put and remove, but I lost count of how many of them I lost

So I stumbled upon this marvel on the web, and I can't be more satisfied, it fixed a long time problem for me. It installs with 5 screws, 3 on the long stem piece and 2 on the catch piece. Installing the long piece to a door was pretty easy, but if you have stone baseboards or stone floors like me, you will find that making holes on that type of surface just to install a door stopper is overdone. Well, no problem then: use a double sided foam tape or equivalent and fix the catch end to the baseboard or floor. No holes, no drilling on hard surface. The double sided tape will hold just fine and the door will stop like a charm by just pushing it against the wall. I'm so happy!

This product works very well. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with any installation instructions which could cause problems for some people. It would be nice if there were instructions on how to align the magnet properly to mate with the door stop. What I did was, I installed the door stop on the wall first, then I attached the magnetic side to the door stop and closed the door to see where it would line up and I marked the door with a pencil. That method is good but not entirely accurate because I was marking where the outer casing would be and not where the inner mounting plate goes. In the end, I was off a few millimeters and the magnetic bowl doesn't sit 'squarely' so to speak but it's good enough to hold the door and do it's job. Proper installation is the key to make this product work as intended!!

No issues with this. It can be noisy as it will be metal on metal with magnets pulling them together (obviously), but it works well. Its got a spring in the 'catcher' side (as opposed to the post side) to absorb some of the impact.

These work great. I live in a metal building with doors that swing outward. I have to use a 4x4 and a heavy block to keep them blocked open. When it rains I get drowned trying to undo all of that to get the door closed. It is so much easier this this door stop. It holds the doors except in the highest winds. We've even used on a newly hung bedroom door that would just not stay open. This works great.

The wind blew. The front and back doors of my small house were both open. The ancient back door slammed shut and the glass in the upper third of the door shattered into a million pieces. Sharp shards of window glass everywhere. I had the glass replaced with the proper modern laminated glass, but I was afraid it would happen again, so I went looking for a doorstop. I found this magnetic one on Amazon and bought it based on the reviews. It's perfect! The magnet is strong enough to hold the door firmly when I want it open, but easy enough to disconnect when the door needs to be closed.

I heard a few "words" from my friend as he was installing it for me. Apparently, he found it somewhat "fiddley" getting the parts lined up. But once everything was correctly in place, all was well. I was very happy. So much so that I ordered another for my laundry room door which sometimes closes itself.

Looks nice, matching the other quality polished chrome hardware in the room, has a substantial feel, and works well, too. Highly recommended.

Good unit. Instructions do not make it clear that you have to unscrew the insert from the small piece. In fact instructions stink.. I know it's not deep science math but it took me a few minutes at least to figure out that the piece unscrewed.. other then that it works pretty well. Not SO good on a lightweight door. but real well on a heavy door. The light door bounces off of it..

So pretty. Use this in the laundry room instead of pulling out the laundry basket to hold the door in place :) I used two skinny tools inserted in the holes to unscrew the base of the short part from its top. I installed the long part on the door because otherwise it would be difficult to pull out the dryer for service. I recommend screwing in the short part first, then try to align the two parts - screw in only one screw of the three of the long part, then turn it until you get the amount of magnet power you want. From the reviews, I already knew I didn't want the magnets to have full contact so I purposely wanted them off-center. Only in trial and error with the method I suggest did I find the perfect balance of strength and release. Oh, and if you're a bit off still, try screwing in through a different hole as the magnet is thin and curved and contact will differ depending on what is in contact with the short part. Well-designed item! Happy with it.
