37XR-A True RMS Digital Multimeter with Component Logic Test
Feature packed, rugged and reliable
The Amprobe 37XR-A Digital Multimeter is a feature packed, rugged and reliable multimeter. It displays true-rms measurement on a low-light backlit LCD screen. Component and logic testing is used for troubleshooting electronics at the bench or on the job site. This multimeter features auto and manual ranging for measuring current, voltage, resistance, capacitance, frequency, inductance, duty cycles, logic states, and dBm function.
The meter comes with a set of detachable test leads with two alligator clips for measuring measure alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) to 10 amp, AC voltage to 750 volts (V), DC voltage to 1,000V, resistance to 40 megaohms, capacitance to 400 microfarads, frequency to 10 megahertz (MHz), inductance to 40 henrys (H), duty cycles to 90%, and power to 50 decibels relative to miliwatts (dBm).
It meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010 and is certified for category II installations up to 1,000V (which covers large household appliances and devices connected to a fixed power supply, such as refrigerators and air conditioners), and category III installations up to 600V (which covers items used with enclosed building circuit installations, such as service panel parts, branch circuits, and fixed installations that are connected directly to a building's AC power supply). The meter comes with a magnetic strap that can be used to hang the meter on metal doors or fixtures.
Features:
The meter offers two ranging modes, auto or manual. When turned on, the meter is in auto-ranging mode and automatically selects the correct operating range for the measurement being taken. It can be switched to manual-ranging mode for applications where an instantaneous meter response is needed. True-rms sensing provides accurate reading when measuring both linear and non-linear loads.
The logic test reports the logic state of transistor-to-transistor (TTL) or complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) digital circuits in electronics. The maximum or minimum reading mode displays the highest or lowest reading in a session to track a sudden increase or decrease in readings, and the average function displays the average of the recorded maximum or minimum values.
The peak + or - function records peak positive or negative values for AC current and AC voltage. The relative zero mode stores a reading in memory to use as a zero point for subsequent readings, allowing for quick comparison of readings. An audible continuity sensor confirms that the circuit conducts electricity, and a diode test detects whether the circuit's diodes work properly. The hold function keeps a reading on the display, even after the meter is disconnected. An auto power-off mode turns off the unit after 30 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter's batteries need to be replaced.

I am an aircraft mechanic and needed a reliable meter that can perform all the functions this meter has. It was between this and a much more expensive Fluke meter. After using this meter extensively I must say it does everything it supposed to and works as well as the more expensive Fluke's. The meter is rated to 1000v and 10 amps which makes it useful for just about any application. I personally like the the dial selector more then the multifunction buttons found on the Fluke meters.
The problem I have found with this meter is high interference when measuring without the covers on the leads. The leads come with 2 unscrewable covers over the ends of the leads for, I asumme, more accurate readings since in areas where other voltage sources are close by, inaccurate readings can occur. These ends prevent from measuring something inside a hole and must be removed if you need a longer tip. The meter comes with alligator clips for the end of the leads and a temperature probe.
One other problem I had is with the temperature probe. It is a straightforward design of a small box that plugs into the probe receptacles of the meter. My probe arrived broken but I dismantled the box by simply popping the box apart, it comes apart in halves, and reattaching the wires that had come off their proper positions.
The meter comes with an extra fuse located under the panel of the rear of the meter. There is a small fuse and a large fuse. The large fuse is only accessible by completely removing the outer case and taking the back panel of the meter off. The smaller fuse is the only one that includes a replacement. The small fuses are the ones likely to go if measuring basic currents/voltages. I've found replacements for under 5 dollars.Read more ›
