I bought this thinking "native PCI express chip - that sounds great vs going bridged" well I should have listened and done my proper research BEFORE I bought this. I got this card installed fine under Windows 8 x64. I ran TI applied OHCI card checker to see if this would work. It failed the DICE test which means Focusrite 1394 interfaces will NOT work or work well with this card. If you want a supported card and something with a known history to work go with a: SIIG NN-E20012-S2. The SIIG is quite a bit more but at least you will know it'll work out of the box with many operating systems and if you have an issue with your audio interface support will be easier as you are using a supported PCIe card.

This card will not capture HD video on the Windows 7 platform. The manufacturer does not provide drivers for this card but instead relies on Microsoft's drivers supplied with Windows 7. This card captures Standard Definition video fine but will not work in HD. So until Microsoft releases a service pak with updated drivers, there's another $30 bucks wasted.

Discovered my new editing computer did not have one of these like so many older computers...but if you have old video lying around your house, you need one of these to upload to the computer. I'm not an expert, but I didn't have any issues installing.

I needed a firewire card to get digital video into my computer to use in Adobe Premiere Elements 10. Unfortunatley Dell doesn't offer a firewire card as one of their options. Why(?), I don't know. It was a bit tedious getting the card to fit in the card slot. It finally slid in. Tight fit. When I booted the computer it found the card and installed it. It needs no extra software to work. It works great. I recommend the card but it might take you a few minutes to put it in the computer.

I got the Startech Firewire card to transfer video from my older Sony HI-8 camcorder. I had trouble installing the card and it seemed the tolerances, where the card fits into the PCI-E slot and the mounting bracket attached to the card were off. I finally got the card to go down into the slot but the top of the bracket would not fit down flush like the other cards do, probably about 1/8" too high after several attempts (I do PC installs, fiber optic installs for my job and am A+, Sec+ and Fiber qualified). The card does operate fine and the computer with Windows 7 Ultimate recognized and loaded all appropriate drivers for the camcorder. So, I am satisfied with the card as far as it working but not too impressed with the manufacturer's build of the card.

I just received this today and installed it on my Dell XPS8500 running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
The card installed without any issues in the PCI Express port. My first reboot after installing
it hung for some reason, but a retry solved that issue.

I got this so I can continue to import videos from my Sony Handycam DCR-HC48. After
reinstalling the Sony Picture Motion Browser software (and latest update from their
support web site), I was then able to import my videos once again. The video and audio
looked great.

Great product and good price - exactly what I needed.

I only gave this card 3 stars because it doesn't work with what I bought it for - don't buy this if you intend to get a firewire card to work along with your Focusrite firewire interface for audio recording. The computer recognizes the card right away and it's worked with an external HD that I have, but it doesn't sync up with my Saffire 40 pro interface. Not sure if anyone else has tried this with any other interface but it doesn't work with mine. For a budget firewire card it will work - as long as you're not trying to record with a Focusrite. Installation was super easy and, like I said, windows 7 recognized it immediately. It's going in my other comp now so I can use my external HD with that one and move some stuff around to clear up space - getting a different card for my recording PC.

This is an excellent product, and pretty much works just as good as the other PCI cards. I can hook my camera right up and it imports very high quality video and sound. It was about time that I had to start importing family videos, so this comes in handy.
