4.0 out of 5 stars Better and more features than most cordless phones, July 15, 2009
By JoJo (Orlando, FL USA) - See all my reviews
I also have had this phone for a couple weeks like the first reviewer. I bought it because of the color screen and the sleek look, and also for the Philips Brand name, expecting nice quality. The user's manual tells you phone will hold its charge best after three full charging cycles. I have been through only two, as it does not deplete very quickly. This last time, I had one handset off its base for six days, and the other one off for five days. The second one, at five days, had quite a lot of use for calls. Even at five days, after many, many calls, the battery icon showed it near empty, but still was not flashing indicating a low battery, needing charging. The sound quality is excellent, both on my end, and those that I speak to on the other line. I have been told it is the clearest phone they have heard, comparing it to even the best landline phone... I use my phone with Magic Jack, a very basic VOIP service.

The phone is comfortable to use, and because the keypad is flush, no accidental hitting of keys while resting the phone on my shoulder to talk. (Remember fat face hangups when cordless phones first came out?)

As far as being "user friendly": not so much. You really do need to read the manual to see what some of the options are for. But once you look them up, it is easy to remember.

The phone book holds 100 entries: others (Like VTech only hold around 20). The range is amazing. The 5.8ghz phones cannot even compare.

My biggest concern: At times I hear my own voice echoing back to me. Not sure if it is the phone or the service, but have been able to redial the same number and the echo will be gone.

I would definitely recommend this phone. *One other note*: Most cordless phones use Phone Battery Packs, and the life is not very long, approximately 6 months ( in my situation). This phone uses 2 "AAA" Nickel Metal Rechargable batteries: in other words, it costs less than $5 to replace them. The maH is 600. Imagine going to a much higher maH battery, and how long it could then last off the charger.

3.0 out of 5 stars The phone is not exceptional, June 8, 2009

I am a fan of Philips products. The quality, presentation and features are usually above par. But this phone does not follow that completely.
Pros: The ringers are truly multi-phonic. With the excellent X-Def speaker, they sound like stereo. Speakerphone quality is excellent. The background light and buttons have a nice feel. I prefer the flushed buttons like the one this phone has. I have had the phone now for couple of weeks. The batteries last for about 3 days of extensive use (provided you do not switch off the base). You can set one of the 15 or so ringtones to individual phonebook entry.
Cons: The earpiece sound rattles when you talk in the microphone. You can hear yourself and is annoying. The color display has 4 wallpapers and is useless. You can upload your own. I miss the Panasonic type Talking Caller-ID.
The phone has many features that I probably will never use. One HAS TO READ THE MANUAL to understand the features and usage.
One of the primary reasons I bought this phone was because it has a nice feature to switch it off. But unlike mobile phones, only the display and ringer goes off. The phone internally is still up. I normally switch the base as well as the handsets off in the night. The batteries drain over night as the phone is searching for the base even though the phone is supposed to be turned off.
I was looking for a phone without the answering machine so this one was perfect. I would have preferred 3 handsets instead of two. The range is good. More than I need. I can walk to the street corner and it still works.
I do not have iPhone so cannot say about interference. But there is none because of the wireless router or the Windows Mobile based PDA that I have.
I may return this for now. Have not made up my mind. Unlike other Philips products, this certainly is not a "no-brainer".

2.0 out of 5 stars Philips DECT Series Cordless Phone, November 2, 2009
By FJC Jr (Morris County, NJ) - See all my reviews
Pretty weak cordles phone. Replaces a Sony single unit cordless that had incredible range, great sound, good battery life and was incredibly easy to use; unfortunately, it had reached the end of its useful life. None of the Sony's attributes apply to the Philips. Range is probably 50 feet indoors, best case. And no, it's not block construction, it's a traditional stick built home. Sound is tinny, with a fair amount of echo. Battery life seems ok. Phone is not user friendly at all. To enter names into the phone book is somewhat exhaustive. If you choose this one, save the receipt and packaging, because it's probably going back.
