1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, just awful!, May 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bad writing, cheap effects, bad acting, gratuitous sexuality, fight scenes that rival the 1960's "Batman" TV show for campiness: all the ingredients for a disaster. Ron Fitzgerald was especially cartoonish as the Bad Guy. He was supposed to scare and intimidate me with his evil and his power, and all I wanted to do was punch his silly face in front of his scantily clad amazon girlfriend (whose sole function was to desperately try to distract the audience from the incompetent job everyone did on this movie).

I paid $2 for this movie. Having seen it; I wouldn't accept it as a gift.

Thinking of buying this movie? Be bored! Be VERY bored!

1.0 out of 5 stars the dumbest movie ever, May 1, 2009
By Caraculiambro (La Mancha and environs) - See all my reviews
I ordered this movie because I mistakenly thought it was the one based on John Fowles novel about an ESL teacher who runs into some weird adventures on a small Greek island.

No such luck.

It's a B-movie about a modern-day wizard, a renegade from his order called "the Magus."

Lordy Lord! Terrible acting, inept directing, cack-handed editing, laughable special effects, and a script that seems like it was written by a 12-year-old.

One can only hope that these filmmakers (and actors) never return to the business.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eerie Martial Arts Film, August 5, 2008
I wouldn't even know what to tag this film genre wise but to be accurate with this movie it would be a martial arts movie with urban fantasy and horror elements. Written and directed by John Lechago. I've wanted awhile for this one to come out and I've came to know Ron Fitzgerald over the past year, knew of him for a year then finally met him at Gothicfest 2007.

I missed the preview of this movie there, but I got to see the trailers on Youtube.com. It is one of those that does a lot with its meager budget. Ron carries the film but so does each cast member involved with the film. I have to give them props on the use of the martial arts in the movie to carry it. It's one of those you're going to have to sit and watch more than once to catch everything.

The story itself is about a wizard who is lusting for power (the character chillingly portayed by Fitzgerald.) There is a philosophical element in this film, and carries the good vs. evil aspect to the film to a level that makes you have to really pay attention otherwise you'll miss something.

I also want to add my copy is signed by Ron Fitzgerald, who is known in real life as an illusionist. So you really get to see his sinister charm in this film, he's got one of those wicked sense of humors in real life but this film you get to see him play something really evil to a disturbing level. I had this feeling John was going for something very frightening and this does this to a level that rivals the high budget counterparts in the business.

I can see where Fangoria picked this one as a favorite and as a favorite in horror film festivals. There is another film I will recommend here if you like this film, check out Resurrection Mary too which is also a horror film featuring local talent. Ron did Chicago proud here and if Mancow stands up to notice, then you know he's doing something huge.

This was a polished, high budget-looking film accomplished with far less resources that most films of this genre. Great effects, spooky characters, and evocative music. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Horror, martial arts and magic
This movie reminds me of The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark. Some people do have something "extra", but it
is probably not magic. Read more
