***UPDATE 4/23/14*** The boxes have held up as well as the Type Rs perfectly! Granted, I've blown a few fuses here and there, but that was all my fault. The boxes' carpet has held up, everything has been working flawlessly up to this point. I haven't held on to a sub system this long, I've always upgraded every so often, but this time I think I finally got it right!

Let's keep this simple. My system (in a Scion XB):
Panasonic HU, Polk Audio DB401 4" in the dash, Polk Audio DB651 6.5" in the doors.
MTX TE801D (800 watts @ 2-ohms mono bridged, underrated), 2 Alpine Type R SWR-1223D 2-ohm DVC (wired at 2-ohms mono), these 2 Atrend boxes, stuffed with 1 pound of Polyfill each, as suggested. I bought these boxes to replace the tiny sealed boxes I had these subs in before.

Both boxes fit perfectly in the back of my Scion, I have them facing upwards. Mind you, I haven't broken the subs in fully (I've played them for only a few hours). I installed the subs into the boxes today, hooked them up, and went for a little drive. Mother of G*d.

Let's backtrack a little. Prior to purchasing the Alpines, I had 2 MTX 8000s in the same tiny sealed boxes. I had stuffed those with about 3/4 of a pound of Polyfill. Now, the 8000s sounded decent in those boxes, but I felt it wasn't loud enough for my liking, but enough for the average listener. So I purchased the Alpines, noticed an improvement in both sound quality and sound pressure level (loudness). Even though they were in boxes that might've been too small, I felt the stuffing them made quite a difference. Bass was very tight and punchy. It was plenty loud, but again, after everything I'v read about these subs, I knew ported was the way to go. And so I ordered the Atrend boxes. And man.... what a HUGE difference.Read more ›

I bought this box with a pioneer Champion Series 12 inch sub woofer and boy i will tell you this thing kicks A $$. it has more than enough cubic feets of air to make the sub i have work and sound flawlessly. (1.3c)

Ive been building a budget car audio system and amazon has made it way too easy. With an alpine type r 12" for around $145, alpine mrp500 amp for $150, KnuKonceptz wiring kit for $30, and this box for $30! Ive got a system for about $360 that sounds as good as the over $1500 dollar systems my friends mommys and daddys bought them. This $30 box is made of thicker mdf and better constructed then any of their couple hundred dollar boxes. it has 1"!! mdf on the front panel with the hole for sub and 3/4 mdf everywhere else. As for everyone complaining about the glue smell that probly just means it was built not too long ago and hasnt been sitting around in a warehouse getting beat up. I stop noticing the smell after about 4 hours of airing out the box with my sub ;). you will need to run your own wire from the sub to int connection on box with solder. AS for the boxes spec everyone here seems to have their own ideas on cu.ft so these are straight of there website;

I'm really liking this box. In the past I have only had twin 10s or 12s in a sealed box, but for a single sub system I decided ported was the way to go. I didn't want a box tuned for loudness, as I am more interested in sound quality. Another reviewer said that this box is tuned to 37hz, which is still a bit higher than I'd like. Now, I know a lot of folks disagree with the view of polyfill in a ported box, but that is what I did. I also purchased the Infinity 1062w sub from Amazon and this box is a bit too small according to the ported space requirements. The polyfill lowers the overall loudness but you gain a lot of sound quality. It smooths out the boomy-ness and provides tonal balance, and it lowers the tuning to more desirable levels. I'd estimate it to be 33-35hz on the ear-o-meter. I used rubber cement and gently spread it on all walls of the interior, stopping at the port entrance. I also bought the Boss R1100M from Amazon and hooked the DVC sub parallel at 2 ohms. This was not an expensive set up by any means but the quality is amazing compared to the more expensive systems of yore that I used to be into in the 90s and 00s. Now I'm in my 30s but can't quite let it go, and this box is small enough to not be burdensome as I can remove it when I need to, but big enough to fill the need.

i dropped a sundown sa10 d2 in this and its almost like this box was built for that sub. the mounting hole is perfect size, and the internal volume is within recommended specs for this sub. high quality box, the speaker baffle is 1" the rest appears to be 3/4" mdf. only thing i would suggest is a better terminal cup, other than that great box !!!!

Well built! Solid! Heavy! Thick! I have this with a 12" Pioneer 500 RMS sub and the box is solid. The front panel is 1" the rest is 3/4" which is fine. The terminal connectors are ok, and I used pliers to crimp my connections a little more since the blades seemed loose. The box seams are air tight and the port is well built to allow air to pass where you want it. I predrilled my sub mounting screw holes to prevent any cracking, but this was likely overkill. It's heavy and carpeted so friction/gravity keep it in place in my carpeted trunk. Right now I just have a few screws at the corners to 'pin' it in place and that's plenty.

On the manufacturer's site this box has lots more tech specs so read them carefully to match the resonant frequency to your sub, match the cu in reccomended for your sub, for the money this is a great fit for my 12" Pioneer 500 watt Champion series
