ADVISORY: I am using this enclosure for music production, not music re-production, i.e. placing a guitar speaker in the enclosure rather than a sub-bass woofer. So, even though I want a more bass sound out of what is usually a higher frequency transducer by placing it in this enclosure( the smaller volume), what I say in this review does apply to putting a bass speaker in the enclosure.
I read some other reviews of this enclosure, and picked up a couple of pointers about making sure to seal the joints with your own silicone just in case their sealing is faulty, and about the exact size of the interior. Sealing and volume are important to me, I'm putting an Eminence Commonwealth 12 guitar speaker into the enclosure, and it needs to be air tight and close to the 0.88 cu. ft. volume one astute reviewer calculated.
Build quality was very good, the front baffle is one inch thick, and the carpeting is very professionally done and looks great. I emailed the manufacturer ahead of time to find out the exact diameter of the circular hole in the front baffle, and they got back to me immediately with a dimension of 11.112 inches( pretty close). I wanted to know that number so that I could determine in advance whether or not the Eminence speaker would drop into the cabinet, and it did!
I just needed to do one modification to the product in order to ensure a tighter fit of speaker to box. I carefully removed the carpeting out to a diameter of 12.28" concentrically around the cutout( 0.56" all around the hole) so that I could fit a cork gasket between the speaker flange and the wood material of the baffle before I screwed the speaker down to the box. I just didn't feel as if mounting the speaker to the carpeted front baffle would give me an airtight seal.

The quality of this box is fairly good for the price and produces tight and punchy bass paired with my 15” Boston Acoustics G215-44. The box was shipped in a thin cardboard box with no additional padding or protection. Mine was not damaged in any way but I wish they would at least put some hard foam padding on the corners to prevent damage from accidental falls or dings during shipping.

Using a pair of calipers, the baffle measured 1” as claimed and the side walls measure about 13/20” (0.65”). This is probably sufficient for most 15” subwoofers as long as it isn’t a triple magnet, 10000 watt monster sub. I measured and posted a picture with the dimensions so you can make sure it fits before you buy. Internal volume measures roughly 3532 cu in or 2.04 cu ft. (as claimed).

As far as installation, my sub dropped right in with no sanding or modification. This one has spring loaded terminals which I am not a fan of but It can easily be replaced with any number of binding post terminals here on amazon or parts express. I lined the box with roughly 10 sq ft of 2” thick fiber glass insulation to help dampen standing waves. Also, the ugly “BBOX” emblem on the lower corner can be pried off with a flathead screwdriver it it bothers you. And as a general tip when installing, predrill the holes for the sub so that you don’t split the wood when fastening the screws.

I purchased two of these Atrend hatchback boxes. The first for my son (used for an Alpine R Series 12") and I was pleased, so I got one for myself (paired with a Hertz ES300D).

Mine had at least one air leak, which I located by pressing on the subwoofer cone and hearing a pht noise. After you put one of these together and seal the sub in, it's a pain to take all apart. I sealed all the joints with siliconized latex. As an aside, next time I'll just use silicone, DAP siliconized latex takes way too long to cure.

So, all fixed up, I played it for my son, he said my sub sounded a lot tighter than his, so I took a listen and there was that off time, flubbery response that mine had before I fixed it.

I now get to do it all over again. I hope it holds.

Two boxes, both bad. You may want to choose another brand of enclosure, or prepare yourself to seal it before you use it. Don't think you'll get lucky, two for two can't be a coincidence.

Filled with poly, and installed a Pioneer TS-W309D4 sounds great. No air leaks that I can hear, and it has a small footprint so it doesn't take up much trunk space in my Jetta. Would be 5 stars, but the speaker connections are a tad finicky so I knocked it down a star for that.

Works well for little money and a little labor. Terminal Cup is kinda cheap so I switched with a better one. Before installing sub I ran a bead of Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive in the corners and then smeared with finger to get it in deep to prevent air leaks, then I let it dry for a couple of days with small fan blowing into enclosure. That is important b/c fumes from adhesive can cause sub glue to fail if sub is installed to soon. Dimensions: 15.25 Width x 13.5 Height x 9.25 Top Depth x 12 Bottom Depth. Volume is about .90 cubic foot. I can't believe these figure are not listed on Amazon, I went to the Atrend site to find these before I purchased enclosure. Running Polk DXi124 DVC sub getting 500 watts for about a year now with no problems or air leaks.
