First, I should explain that I keep kosher. What this means in practicality is that I use blue-lidded storage containers for dairy foods and red-lidded ones for meat foods.

I like these containers because: 1. They seal well. 2. You can label what is inside on the tops and sides of the containers. 3. You can put them in the dishwasher. 4. They last a long time. 5. These Deep Dish containers can be used to store meals made ahead of time, large leftovers or food transportation. 6. You can freeze food in them easily. 7. You can also store non-food items in them, such as pencils, makeup, toys, etc. 8. You can use GladWare containers of different sizes to store ingredients for a dish one or two days before mixing/combining and cooking.

Just a note: I didn't list these reasons in any order, I just wrote them as they popped into my head.

These particular 2-qt. Glad containers have been a staple in our kitchen for years and we always keep six or so handy in the cabinet. They are light, airtight and the covers snap on for a perfect seal. We use them for leftovers including soups, for taking food out for potlucks and parties, and for storing prepped ingredients for a day or two before we cook. They can be microwaved to re-heat food (but NOT to cook food!) and since they're non-stick they are very easy to clean and they really are dishwasher safe.

We have used other brands of food storage containers and wound up with all sorts of incompatible types and sizes, but this Gladware is the best and we use only these.

Prices vary tremendously, so shop around.

My brother delivers food he's cooked to neighbors and this is the storage container he most often uses. Although he prefers Lock&Lock's handled containers, they are way too expensive to risk losing to our beloved neighbors. These are cheap enough that our friends don't mind returning them. They are the perfect size to hold enough meat and vegetables for two people.

$2.57 for three online from Walmart.

When we go to my brother's house for dinner, my sister-in-law always sends left-overs home with us in plastic containers. This has happened so often that it just made sense to refill her supply. She was very grateful.

GladWare Deep Dish Food Storage Containers, 64 oz. are must have for storage of larger portions of meal leftovers including roast chicken, pastas, soups, and stews. Also convenient for storing non-refrigerated items such as dog biscuits. Perfect for freezing extra homemade baked goods including cookies and brownies.

Lids retain a tight seal, even after many, many uses. Food remains fresh whether stored in the refrigerator, freezer, or pantry.

Hint: If you stored oily or sticky items in the container, fill the container with soapy water and let it soak a bit before hand washing. The containers will clean up in a breeze. I recommend hand washing vs. dishwasher washing to better cleaning and prolonged life.

A very good food storage container from GladWare. They seal tightly (lid is difficult to remove after sealing, so you know that your food is going to be fresh after storage. I like the "lid keeper" system they have, so I am not having to search through all those darn lids for the right one!- Clear sides, so you can tell what's in the container. Altogether, a very good storage system, and highly recommended. I shall purchase again, and will buy other sizes for my needs.

The large size is great but the containers are a bit flimsy. I recently purchased a rubbermaid set and I find them to be better. They are a bit more expensive but only a few size lids fit all containers. I hate trying to find the right lid for the right container. I think they are sturdier and will wear better than these.

If you like to cook big batches of soups, meats, casseroles etc. to have left-overs to serve in the next week so you don't have to cook as often, these BPA free FreezerWare containers are ideal. They are a good size and have some helpful features according to the company including:

* crack resistant in freezer temperatures and can withstand extreme temperatures
* ideal freezer storage for meat, fruit, veggies, sauces or soups
* can use in microwave and put in dishwasher
* tight-fitting lids lock in freshness and prevent messy leaks
* BPA free plastic safe for microwave, dishwasher and freezer
* great for marinating meats in the frig

For empty nesters, they are great if you are used to cooking for a family and now cook for two. You have enough left over to freeze for a meal later in the week or month. Or, if you're travelling, and want to leave some food for a partner who doesn't like to cook, you can leave meals for them. It's great to have these in the freezer on a night when you don't want to cook and have soup, taco meat, spaghetti and meatballs, casseroles, and other dishes ready to go. Of course, I read that one woman when she didn't want to cook, used to get out a yucky looking green casserole that when her husband saw it thawing on the countertop would suggest that they go out to dinner at a restaurant that night. So, these containers can be helpful for that purpose, also.
