1.0 out of 5 stars Padding causes risk to baby, January 15, 2008
I have tried the Infantino Slingrider, both the recalled version and this newer one. Both are the same and have the same issues. The elasticized padding on the top rails closes over baby's face and can cause rebreathing of air inside the carrier and suffocation against side of sling. Additionally, the internal belt and the structure of this carrier causes baby to lie in a curved-spine, chin-to-chest position, thereby causing asphyxiation by forced closing of the airway. Please try a different carrier such as an unpadded ringsling like Ellaroo, Zolowear or Karma Baby. Or an upright carrier such as a Mei Tai, Bjorn, Pikkolo, Ergo, Patapum or Beco.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor design, January 17, 2008
By Hoover (Santa Fe, NM United States) - See all my reviews
The SlingRider has several design flaws that make it possible for a newborn to have difficulty breathing or become oxygen deprived.
1) The bottom is wide and an infant's head can roll so that his nose and mouth could press against the parent's body. 2) The depth of the SlingRider, plus having the top of the pouch almost entirely closed, makes it extremely difficult to monitor the infant - unless the parent opens the sling. 3) As baby grows his longer body starts to follow the curvature of the pouch and he becomes tight chin to chest which pinches his airway and makes it more difficult to breathe. (All Infantino front pack instructions have this sentence, "Baby's chin should not point down toward baby's chest." I do not know why this warning has been omitted in the SlingRider instructions and why all product photos of the SlingRider show an infant in the chin to chest position.)
I strongly urge parents NOT to purchase the SlingRider. For parents wishing to use a pouch style sling there are many other brands that do not compromise baby's safety.

Important note: In the oxygen testing I have done, and in my experience as a Registered Nurse, most newborns, especially those under a month of age, will often not cry, even if they are having difficulty breathing. Do not assume an infant would cry if he/she were struggling to breathe in the SlingRider.

1.0 out of 5 stars A lawsuit waiting to happen, August 24, 2008
By Noteli (New York NY) - See all my reviews
I would avoid this carrier at all costs. First, there are SO many better options out there, many of them available on Amazon. [...] has detailed reviews for all kinds of carriers (ring slings, pouches, structured carriers like the Ergo) that are both easier to use and more comfortable that this one. I carried my son in a carrier from day 1, and we found so many great, comfortable options (Moby, Hotsling, Maya Wrap, Ergo, Beco).

Second and more importantly, though, this carrier is just plain unsafe. It puts a newborn baby in the VERY dangerous position of having his/her chin to her chest and risks cutting off air supply. AND then the design is to have this thick fabric over the baby's face. Both of these make this carrier unsafe beyond belief. Please, please look elsewhere for a good carrier for your baby. This one is just a lawsuit waiting to happen.
